Elastic Future is an experimental theatre company founded in San Francisco with the aim of making plays more accessible to a non-theater visiting audience. [1] Founded in 2004, it moved to London in 2011.

History

Elastic Future was founded by creative director, Marc Blinder, and artistic director, Erin Gilley, with a founding team of artists including Josh Peek, Randy Sterns, Connie Hwong, Evren Odcikin, and Sara Razavi. Later the company added Wesley Cabral and Denmo Ibrahim.

Elastic Future's use of Google Hangouts on Air to create digital theatre in Peek A Boo and Longitude, was described as "a world first" [2] and "a brand new art form." [3] Longitude was covered in Vice (magazine). [4] Longitude was conceived, rehearsed and performed entirely online, using Google Hangouts, with a cast in London, Barcelona and Lagos. Elastic Future had earlier experimented with this format in Peek A Boo which used performers in New York City, London, and Beirut.

Artworks

June 2014, "Longitude", London International Festival of Theatre and The Space commissioned Elastic Future to make a digital performance for LIFT 2014 using actors in London, Barcelona and Lagos, Nigeria. Longitude aired as a series of three live online performances during LIFT 2014. [5]

July 2013, "Peek A Boo", created by Elastic Future in partnership with LIFT. "Peek a Boo" was an experiment using Google Hangouts On Air to perform live theatre with a cast of actors from New York City, London and Beirut. Peek A Boo tells the story of two computer programmers, one webcam girl, an NSA agent and a GCHQ agent. [6]

April 2011, "The Lily’s Revenge", Elastic Future worked with the Magic Theatre, to produce The Lily’s Revenge, a 5-hour play written by Taylor Mac. It included elements circus, live music, animation and dance. Over 40 performers and 6 directors participated in the creation of this show. [7] The Lily's Revenge was a political satire created in response to the political debate around California's Prop 8.

February 2008, "Not Eye", A video and performance installation, was presented as part of the art gallery Root Division’s show Blackout. Blackout was an exhibition of self-illuminating work shown in a darkened art gallery. [8]

October 2007, "Beautiful Redux", a remounting of the original production from 2005. Beautiful mixed elements of cabaret and drag show with theatre. Beautiful Redux was described as "decadent, loud, and possibly audience-fondling" by the SF Weekly. [9]

January 2007, "The Greek Play", one part art exhibition and one part play. Directed by Evren Odcikin and curated by artist Katie Vida. [1]

April 2006, "The Unauthorized Autobiography of Kim Deal", a hybrid rock concert/play performed at Amnesia (in San Francisco's Mission district). This play was intended as commentary on celebrity culture and the mythology people build around their heroes. The show tells a completely fictionalized story of the lives of Kim and Kelley Deal. [10] The show paired live theatre with members of the band Fans of Jimmy Century playing live The Pixies and The Breeders covers.

Mac Dre American rapper from California

Andre Louis Hicks, known by his stage name Mac Dre, was an American rapper and record producer from Vallejo, California. He was an instrumental figure in the emergence of hyphy, a cultural movement in the Bay Area hip hop scene that emerged in the early 2000s. Hicks is considered one of the movement's key pioneers that fueled its popularity into mainstream, releasing songs with fast-paced rhymes and basslines that inspired a new style of dance. As the founder of the independent record label Thizz Entertainment, Hicks recorded dozens of albums and gave aspiring rappers an outlet to release albums locally.

Lily Rose Beatrice Allen is an English singer, songwriter, actress and author. She is the daughter of actor Keith Allen and film producer Alison Owen. Her music career began in 2005 when she made some of her vocal recordings public on Myspace and the publicity resulted in airplay on BBC Radio 1 and a contract with Regal Recordings. Her first mainstream single, "Smile", reached number one on the UK Singles Chart in July 2006. Holden Snyder

Holden Snyder is a fictional character on the CBS daytime soap opera As the World Turns. He was portrayed by Jon Hensley from 1985 to 1988, 1990 to 1995 and 1997 until the show's final episode on September 17, 2010. Hensley's character is part of the large Snyder clan, one of the central families on the show that reflected the life of the show's then-head writer Douglas Marland. Southern Exposure (art space)

Southern Exposure (SoEx) is a not-for-profit arts organization and alternative art space founded in 1974 in the Mission District of San Francisco, California. The Lily's Revenge: A Flowergory Manifold is a five act play. The book, lyrics, and conception were by Taylor Mac. The music was written by Rachelle Garniez. The Lily's Revenge is a multidisciplinary theatrical work, incorporating many different genres and elements of Noh theater, musical theater, puppet-theatre, installation art, verse play, dance, film, and circus performance. It is the second play in the "Armageddon Coupling" pairing, the first being Red Tide Blooming.

"Peek-a-Boo" is a Korean song recorded by South Korean girl group Red Velvet for their second studio album, Perfect Velvet (2017). Described as an up-tempo pop dance song with tropical house elements, the song was written by Kenzie, Ellen Berg Tollbom, Swedish singer-songwriter Cazzi Opeia, and production duo Moonshine, whom also produced the song. Along with its parental album release, the song and its accompanying horror-themed music video were both released on November 17, 2017 as the lead single by SM Entertainment and Genie Music. The song was later re-recorded in Japanese for their second Japanese extended play Sappy, which was released on May 29, 2019.

<i>Grand Blue</i> Japanese manga series

Grand Blue is a Japanese manga series written by Kenji Inoue and illustrated by Kimitake Yoshioka. It has been serialized in Kodansha's seinen manga magazine good! Afternoon since April 2014 and has been collected in fifteen tankōbon volumes as of May 2020. The manga is published digitally in English by Kodansha USA under the Kodansha Comics imprint. An anime television series adaptation by Zero-G aired from July to September 2018 in the Animeism programming block on MBS. A live-action film adaptation was released in August 2020.
