2019 Prince Edward Island general election

The 2019 Prince Edward Island general election was held to elect the members of the 66th General Assembly of Prince Edward Island. The vote in 26 of the 27 districts was held on 23 April 2019, while the vote for the member from Charlottetown-Hillsborough Park was deferred to 15 July due to the death of the Green Party's candidate. However, Charlottetown-Hillsborough Park still voted in a referendum on electoral reform. Natalie Jameson won the deferred election in the riding.

The 2016 Plebiscite on Democratic Renewal was a non-binding referendum on electoral reform held in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island between 27 October – 7 November 2016. This was the second electoral reform referendum to be held in Prince Edward Island, following a vote to maintain the status quo in 2005. The referendum asked which of five voting systems residents would prefer to use in electing members to the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island. The referendum, after four instant run-off rounds, indicated mixed member proportional representation was the preferred choice with 55.03% support on the final ballot.

2019 Prince Edward Island electoral reform referendum

A referendum on electoral reform was held on April 23, 2019 in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island – simultaneously with the 2019 provincial election – to determine if the province should adopt a mixed-member proportional representation voting system (MMP). A narrow majority voted to keep the existing first-past-the-post system. However, the referendum was not binding, as neither the yes or no side received majority support in 60% or more of the province's 27 electoral districts.

The 67th Prince Edward Island general election is tentatively scheduled for 2 October 2023, as a result of the provincial fixed election-date legislation calling for a general election to be held prior to the first Monday of October in the fourth calendar year subsequent to the previous general election, unless it is dissolved earlier by the province's lieutenant governor after the legislature passes a motion of no-confidence.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Prince Edward Island is part of an ongoing global pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), an infectious disease caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The Canadian province of Prince Edward Island has the fewest cases of COVID-19 in Canada in provinces. As of September 12, 2020, Prince Edward Island has reported 55 confirmed cases of the virus, 47 of which have resolved. As of that date, 28,653 tests have come back negative and 84 are currently under investigation. On March 14, 2020, the first confirmed case in Prince Edward Island was announced, a woman in her 50s who had returned from a trip on a cruise ship on March 7. By March 26, there were five cases, all of which had been travel related, i.e., been contracted while persons were abroad. To date, there was no re-transmission reported in the island province.
