Electric Buffalo Records (EBR) is a student-run record label based out of Ithaca, New York. It is one of three subsidiaries of the Cornell Media Guild, Inc. [1] As part of the non-profit corporation, EBR is operated by student volunteers and no costs are incurred by signed artists.

Contents

Unlike its sister subsidiary WVBR, EBR is not limited to alternative music and signs artists across genres including jazz, [2] trap, [3] rock and pop. The label signs both Cornell and Ithaca College students as well as local residents. [2]

History

Electric Buffalo Records was established in 2014 by Mike Sosnick and Jacob Grossfeld. [1] According to an Ithaca Times interview, its mission is to not only develop students' abilities, but to provide "a sort of central outlet for musicians to release music and collaborate with one another."

Fully independent from Cornell University, Electric Buffalo Records runs off of revenue from WVBR-FM and charitable donations. [1] In 2015, a GoFundMe campaign was launched to fundraise for the label.

In 2020, EBR launched its first official merchandise for public purchase through the WVBR Shop. [4] [5]

The label currently holds events including open mic nights, [6] hip-hop battles, [7] and an annual EBR Showcase. [2]
