Leonardo Torres Quevedo was a Spanish civil engineer, mathematician, and inventor of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He is best known for a number of ingenious inventions in different fields of engineering, including mechanics, aeronautics and automation. Torres was elected member of the Spanish Royal Academy of Sciences in 1901 and the Real Academia Española in 1920, as well as a foreign associate of the French Academy of Sciences in 1927, among other institutions.
The Iberian lynx is one of the four extant species within Lynx, a genus of medium-sized wild cats. The Iberian lynx is endemic to the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe. It is listed as vulnerable on the IUCN Red List. In the 20th century, the Iberian lynx population had declined because of overhunting, poaching, fragmentation of suitable habitats, and the population decline of its main prey species, the European rabbit, caused by myxomatosis and rabbit haemorrhagic disease. Fossils suggest the species has been present in Iberia since the end of the Early Pleistocene, around one million years ago.

Blanca was Queen of Castile, daughter of King García Ramírez of Navarre and his first wife, Margaret of L'Aigle. Blanca married Sancho III of Castile, regent of Castile on February 4, 1151 in Carrión de los Condes, Palencia, after travelling from Calahorra, Logroño, in January. The marriage was arranged to insure closer ties between León-Castile and Navarre. As was traditional, Blanca confirmed documents with her husband, so her activity may be traced until 1155.
Ramon Margalef López was a Spanish biologist and ecologist. He was Emeritus Professor of Ecology at the Faculty of Biology of the University of Barcelona. Margalef, one of the most prominent scientists that Spain has produced, worked at the Institute of Applied Biology (1946–1951), and at the Fisheries Research Institute, which he directed during 1966–1967. He created the Department of Ecology of the University of Barcelona, from where he trained a huge number of ecologists, limnologists and oceanographers. In 1967 he became Spain's first professor of ecology.
The Iberian ibex, also known as the Spanish ibex, Spanish wild goat and Iberian wild goat, is a species of ibex endemic to the Iberian Peninsula. Four subspecies have been described; two are now extinct. The Portuguese ibex became extinct in 1892, and the Pyrenean ibex became extinct in 2000. A project to clone the Pyrenean ibex resulted in one clone being born alive in July 2003, making it the first taxon to become "un-extinct", although the clone died several minutes after birth due to physical defects in its lungs.
Sancha of León was a princess and queen of León. She was married to Ferdinand I, the Count of Castile who later became King of León after having killed Sancha's brother in battle. She and her husband commissioned the Crucifix of Ferdinand and Sancha.
Miguel Ángel Garrido Gallardo is a Spanish philologist and semiotician. He is the adopted son of the town of Los Santos de Maimona. He is a professor of research at the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Cientificas (CSIC) [National Council for Scientific Research] in Madrid and distinguished university professor.
Enrique García Hernán is a Spanish historian of the culture of early modern Europe. His research examines the interaction of religious sentiment, political thought and international relations in the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. It attempts to bridge the gap between the study of forms of cultural and intellectual expression and the realities of political, diplomatic and military organization. He is a Corresponding Fellow of the Royal Academy of History, member of the Board of Directors (Vocal) of the Spanish Commission for Military History, and Fellow (Académico) of the Ambrosiana Academy of Milan. His current academic affiliation is as a research professor in the Institute of History, within the Center for Humanities and Social Sciences at the Spanish National Research Council. The Spanish National Research Council is the largest public institution dedicated to research in Spain and the third largest in Europe.
