Ellen Rapoport is an American television writer, producer, and director who created and executive produced the 2022 television comedy series Minx . Rapoport also wrote the screenplay for the 2020 movie Desperados .
Rapoport grew up in the Midwest to immigrant parents. [1] [2]
Rapoport earned a bachelor's degree from Cornell University. Rapoport earned a Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School. In her third year of law school, Rapoport had to write a third-year paper, which was a one-hundred page legal thesis. [1] She convinced her law school professor to let her write a legal drama for this assignment, which inspired her to start writing scripts. [1]
After graduating from law school, Rapoport became a corporate lawyer at Paul, Weiss, Wharton & Garrison. [3] She recalls disliking her job as a lawyer. [3] Rapoport sold her first script while employed at the firm. [3]
Rapoport created and executive produced The Starlet , a 2005 reality TV show. [4] She also developed multiple television pilots, including "Puck Buddies" for Fox, "Hex Ed." for ABC Family and Sony, and "Legally Blonde" for MGM Television. [5]
In 2009, Desperados got picked up by Universal, with Rapoport attached to write the script. [5] In 2020, the film was released on Netflix. [6]
Rapoport wrote for the 2021 film Clifford the Big Red Dog . [7]
Rapoport is the creator of the critically acclaimed comedy series Minx. [8] On February 19, 2020, HBO Max gave the project a pilot order, with Rapoport attached to write, as well as executive produce with Paul Feig and Dan Magnante. [9] The show, along with Rapoport's writing, was positively reviewed by the public, holding a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. [10]
In 2022, Rapoport signed a deal with Lionsgate Television. [11]

Freaks and Geeks is an American teen comedy-drama television series created by Paul Feig and executive-produced by Judd Apatow that aired on NBC during the 1999–2000 television season. The show is set in a suburban high school near Detroit during 1980–81. The theme of Freaks and Geeks reflects "the sad, hilarious unfairness of teen life". With little success when it first aired, due to an erratic episode schedule and conflicts between the creators and NBC, the series was canceled after airing 12 out of the 18 episodes. The series became a cult classic, and Apatow continued the show's legacy by incorporating the actors in future productions.
