Ellie Costello (born 23 November 1993) is a British journalist, multimedia correspondent, and television presenter known for her work with GB News, where she serves as a national reporter and co-host of the breakfast programme.

Early life and education

Ellie Costello was born on 23 November 1993 in Essex, to parents who were teachers. She grew up with an interest in storytelling and current affairs, which later influenced her career path. Costello attended Brentwood Ursuline Convent High School, a Catholic school in Brentwood, Essex, where she served as Head Girl during her final year, graduating in 2012. She pursued higher education at the University of Southampton, earning a degree in English Literature in 2016. She then completed a master's degree in Broadcast Journalism at City, University of London. [1]

Career

Costello's media career began during her university years, where she worked as a radio presenter and DJ at Surge Radio for nearly three years, eventually rising to the role of Assistant Station Manager. She gained further experience through internships and placements at organizations such as Bauer Media and the BBC World Service. In 2009, she briefly worked as a Publishing Assistant at Pep Talk and spent two months at Saint FM. Her early roles also included positions as a voiceover artist at Southampton Solent University and Feature Editor at Wessex Scene , a student news magazine.

From 2016 to 2019, Costello worked as a presenter at SUSUtv for over two years while freelancing as a journalist and reporter for various outlets. She joined BBC News as a television news reporter and broadcast journalist, contributing to the BBC World Service and the Victoria Derbyshire Programme. Her investigative reports on topics such as bullying in the British beauty industry and influencers being solicited for sex online amassed millions of views and earned her a nomination for the BBC's “Rising Star” award in 2020.

In May 2021, Costello joined GB News as a South-East England reporter before the channel's official launch. She transitioned into a national reporter role and became a regular presenter, co-hosting the weekend breakfast show with Stephen Dixon and later Saturday Morning Live with Ellie and Pete alongside Peter Andre. Since December 2024, she has co-hosted the weekday GB News Breakfast Show, presenting with Eamonn Holmes from Monday to Wednesday and Stephen Dixon on Thursdays and Fridays. [1]

Personal life

Costello is of Irish descent and has expressed a strong connection to Irish culture, including its music and food. In November 2023, she announced her engagement to her fiancé during a holiday in Phuket, Thailand, sharing the news on social media with photos of her engagement ring. She has kept her partner's identity private. Costello has stated that her wedding is planned for July 2025. [2]
