The Academy Award for Best Original Score is an award presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) to the best substantial body of music in the form of dramatic underscoring written specifically for the film by the submitting composer. The Umbrella Academy is an American time travel superhero streaming television series based on the comic book series of the same name written by Gerard Way, illustrated by Gabriel Bá, and published by Dark Horse Comics. Created for Netflix by Steve Blackman and developed by Jeremy Slater, it revolves around a dysfunctional family of adopted sibling superheroes who reunite to solve the mystery of their father's death and the threat of an imminent apocalypse. The series is produced by Borderline Entertainment, Dark Horse Entertainment, and Universal Cable Productions.

The first season of the superhero dramedy streaming television series The Umbrella Academy was released on Netflix on February 15, 2019 and consisted of 10 episodes. Developed by Steve Blackman and developed by Jeremy Slater, the series is an adaptation of the the comic book series of the same name written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabriel Bá, both of whom serve as executive producers on the series. The first season revolves around the titular Academy reuniting after years apart to investigate the mystery of their father’s death and the threat of a looming apocalypse.
