Elsie MacLeod(1890 or 1894 - date of death unknown), also noted as Elsie McLeod, was an American film actress who worked in Hollywood in the 1910s and early 1920s. She was primarily known for her starring roles in short Edison comedies, [1] [2] as a co-star in the Bungles Vim Comedy Company series, and for her roles in some of the Hazards of Helen film series episodes.

Biography

According to contemporaneous reporters, Elsie began acting at the age of 5 before going to drama school and honing her craft. She then began performing in vaudeville. [3] She signed with Edison around 1910 and began acting in the studio's short films. [3]

She was in the Bungles film series. [4]

The Hazards of Helen is an American adventure film serial of 119 twelve-minute episodes released over a span of slightly more than two years by the Kalem Company between November 7, 1914, and February 24, 1917. At 23.8 hours, it is one of the longest non-feature-length motion picture series ever filmed, and is believed to be the longest of the film serial format. Based on a novel by John Russell Corvell and the play by Denman Thompson, the series was adapted to the silent screen by W. Scott Darling.

Bungles is a series of four American black-and-white short silent comedy films produced by Louis Burstein for Jacksonville's Vim Comedy Company in 1916. While the series featured Oliver Hardy, Marcel Perez acted in the leading role as Bungles. Perez was also the director for the four films. Elsie MacLeod was the only other credited actor in the series.
