Yao Ming is a Chinese basketball executive and former professional player. He played for the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) and the Houston Rockets of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Yao was selected to start for the Western Conference in the NBA All-Star Game eight times, and was named to the All-NBA Team five times. At the time of his final season, he was the tallest active player in the NBA, at 2.29 m. He is the only player from outside of the United States to lead the NBA in All-Star votes.

He also played in the National Basketball Association for the Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Clippers, and Miami Heat, becoming China's first player to compete in the NBA.

The 6-foot-9-inch (2.06 m) small forward graduated from Dominguez High School before playing college basketball for the University of Kentucky. He was drafted 23rd overall by the Detroit Pistons in the 2002 NBA draft and went on to win a championship with the team in 2004.

He played college basketball for Northeastern University before joining the Mavericks in 2006 and becoming only the seventh Puerto Rican to play in the NBA. He went on to win an NBA championship with the Mavericks in 2011 before signing with the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he played for the next three seasons. He has also played in the NBA Development League and the Baloncesto Superior Nacional.

Rivera has played in the NCAA, NJCAA and the Baloncesto Superior Nacional (BSN), and has also played internationally in Germany and Italy. He has been a member of the Puerto Rican National Team since 2006.

Brazil headed to the Beijing Games with its largest Olympic delegation ever, 277 athletes, including a record 132 women. The 17 medals won by Brazil topped the previous medal count record set in 1996, and included the first individual and gold medals by women, by judoka Ketleyn Quadros and jumper Maurren Maggi, respectively. Three of the medals were gold, by Maggi, swimmer César Cielo and the female volleyball team.

Omar Shariff Sneed is an American former professional basketball player. A Texas native, Sneed played high school basketball at West Brook in Beaumont. He then played two years in junior college at San Jacinto, being named a first team NJCAA All-American. He played his junior and senior seasons in the NCAA Division I with the Memphis Tigers, being a two-time all-conference selection. After going undrafted in the 1999 NBA draft, Sneed started his professional career in Colombia. Over the years he has played in several countries in Asia, Europe and South America, being the top scorer of the Dutch league in 2001 and being named in the top-5 of the Israeli Basketball Premier League. He retired from professional basketball in 2015 after a season in the Turkish second division.
