Emelia Arthur is a Ghanaian politician and a former deputy Western Regional Minister of Ghana . [1] She was appointed by President John Evan Atta Mills and served till January 2013.[ citation needed ] In December 2024 she won the parliamentary election as the National Democratic Congress (Ghana) candidate in the Shama constituency of the Western Region of Ghana,with 57% of the votes cast. [2]
Arthur has expressed concern over the decline of Ghana's marine and inland fisheries resources,emphasizing the need for urgent action to support aquaculture as a sustainable alternative. [3]
She has also pledged to address the European Union's concerns over illegal fishing activities,which have led to Ghana receiving a “Yellow Card”warning [3]
Arthur was appointed Ghana's Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture in January 2025,by President John Dramani Mahama. [4]
