Emerald City Football Club (ECFC) is a Seattle-based select soccer club. ECFC is a premier year-round soccer club with professional coaching. It is one of Seattle's oldest select soccer clubs, having formed in 1979. [1] ECFC is a non-profit, 501c3 organization largely run by volunteers. ECFC teams compete with other premier clubs in Washington State in the Puget Sound Premier League (PSPL [2] ). ECFC players come from all different neighborhoods in the Seattle and Puget Sound region, rather than from one specific geographical area. ECFC is a member of US Club Soccer. [3]

Several notable professional players have served or serve currently as coaches with ECFC. This includes Frank Barton, who played professionally for almost 20 years, including with the Seattle Sounders. Mutanda Kwesele recently joined ECFC as a coach in 2019.
Effective December 1, 2016, the Director of Coaching is John Hamel, a Seattle-area former professional soccer player and long-time coach for ECFC. [4] [5] John is joined by David Smith who serves as Technical Director for the club.
The previous Director of Coaching at ECFC was Bobby Howe, an English footballer who has played for West Ham United and the Seattle Sounders, and also coached for the Seattle Sounders and Portland Timbers. Bobby is a 2016 recipient of the Dr. Thomas Fleck, US Youth Soccer Excellence in Coaching Education Award. [6] Bobby is still an active coach for ECFC.
Brian Schmetzer, current coach for the Seattle Sounders, spent several years coaching for Emerald City FC in the late 1990s. Brian served as Technical Director and Director of Coaching for ECFC prior to joining the Sounders organization in 2002. [7] [8]
Gonzalo Pineda Reyes is a Mexican former professional footballer who currently works as a football coach. He played as a defensive midfielder for several clubs in Mexico, and also played for the Mexico national football team. He last played in 2015 for Major League Soccer club Seattle Sounders FC. He became assistant coach of the Sounders beginning with the 2017 MLS season.
James Gabriel is a Scottish former football midfielder, who earned two caps with the Scotland national football team. Chiefly associated with English club Everton, Gabriel played extensively in Scotland and England before ending his career with the Seattle Sounders of the North American Soccer League. He then became a coach in both England and the US, where he lives today.
Football Club Seattle Storm, also known as the F.C. Seattle Storm, was an American soccer team based in Seattle, Washington. F.C. Seattle was a "super club" created to provide Seattle players an opportunity to play at a higher level than the local recreational and semi-pro leagues. In addition to playing exhibition matches against top international teams, F.C. Seattle was a member of the short lived Western Soccer Alliance, was a founding member of the American Professional Soccer League and later spent three seasons in the Pacific Coast Soccer League.
Adam Owen is a Welsh UEFA Professional Coaching License football manager, coach and former player. He is currently Technical Advisor & High-Performance Director with the Major League Soccer 2019 Champions Seattle Sounders FC. He attained a Ph.D. in Sport and Exercise Science & Coaching from the University of Lyon, France.
John Bain is a Scottish retired-US soccer midfielder who currently coaches youth soccer in the United States. Bain began his professional career in England before moving to the United States in 1978. Over his twenty-year playing career, Bain played for numerous leagues and teams, both indoors and out. After retiring from playing professionally, he has coached at the professional, youth club and high school levels in the US.
Brian Schmetzer is an American soccer coach and retired player. He is the head coach of the Seattle Sounders FC, who play in Major League Soccer (MLS), having been assistant coach for the team until Sigi Schmid's departure in 2016. Prior to that, he coached the Seattle Sounders in the USL First Division for seven seasons, winning two championships, and played in the North American Soccer League, Major Indoor Soccer League and Western Soccer League for various Seattle teams.
Jimmy McAlister is a U.S. soccer defender during the 1970s and 1980s. He was the 1977 NASL Rookie of the Year and earned six caps with the U.S. national team.
Alan Thomas Hinton is an English former footballer who played at the top level of English football from 1961 to 1975. He famously wore white football boots.

Seattle Sounders FC is an American professional soccer club based in Seattle, Washington. The Sounders compete as a member of the Western Conference of Major League Soccer (MLS). The club was established on November 13, 2007, and began play in 2009 as an MLS expansion team. The Sounders are a phoenix club, carrying the same name as the original franchise that competed in the North American Soccer League from 1974 to 1983.
The Seattle Sounders were an American professional soccer team founded in 1994 as a member of the American Professional Soccer League. In 1997, the team became a member of the USL First Division, the second tier of the United States soccer pyramid, until 2008, after which the majority of the team's staff and resources were directed to the new Major League Soccer franchise, Seattle Sounders FC.
Jason Farrell is a former U.S. soccer midfielder who spent four seasons in Major League Soccer, two in the American Professional Soccer League, one in the A-League, three in the National Professional Soccer League and four in the USL First Division. He won two outdoor and one indoor championship and currently coaches youth soccer in the Seattle area.
Rick Brian Blubaugh is an American former professional soccer player. He spent four seasons in the Western Soccer Alliance, one in the Major Indoor Soccer League and one in the Continental Indoor Soccer League.

Robert "Bobby" McAllister is an American soccer player, and is the Co-Founder for Sozo Sports of Central Washington. SOZO Sports of Central Washington is a 501 c3 nonprofit corporation established to bring a family-oriented Championship Sports Complex to Central Washington. McAllister is the current Director of Coaching for Crossfire Yakima. Crossfire Yakima plays in the Regional Club League of the Washington State Youth Soccer Association, he also is an Assistant Coach for the Yakima Valley College Women's program.
Fred Hamel is a retired American soccer midfielder who played professionally in the North American Soccer League and Western Soccer Alliance. He is currently a professor at the University of Puget Sound.
DeAndre Roselle Yedlin is an American professional soccer player who plays for Süper Lig club Galatasaray. Primarily a right-back, Yedlin has also featured as a wing-back and wide midfielder.
