Emil Welz (born 5 April 1879, date of death unknown) was a German track and field athlete who competed in the 1908 Summer Olympics and in the 1912 Summer Olympics. [1] He was born in Finsterwalde.
In 1908 he finished eleventh in the discus throw competition. He also participated in the freestyle javelin event but his result is unknown. Four years later he finished 24th in the discus throw competition.
The men's discus throw was one of six throwing events on the Athletics at the 1908 Summer Olympics programme in London. The competition was held on July 16, 1908. 42 throwers from eleven nations competed. NOCs could enter up to 12 athletes. The event was won by Martin Sheridan of the United States, his second consecutive victory in the event. The Americans completed their first sweep in the discus throw, with Merritt Giffin taking silver and Bill Horr bronze.

Born to Yugoslavian parents he represented the US in international competition. He participated at the 1988 and 1992 Summer Olympics. In addition he competed in three World Track and Field Championships representing the United States, 1991 Tokyo, Japan, 1993 Stuttgart, Germany, and 1995 Goteborg, Sweden. He is a four time Olympic and World Championship finalist in the Men's Discus Throw.
