Emiliano Qirngnuq is a Canadian politician,who was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for the electoral district of Netsilik in the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut in a by-election held 8 February 2016. [1]
Qirngnuq is from the hamlet of Kugaaruk,Nunavut and was formerly the manager of the Koomiut Co-Op. Qirngnuq stated that he wanted to make language preservation a priority. [2]

The 4th Nunavut Legislature began after the 2013 general election on October 29. The election returned 20 of the 22 non-partisan members,with the results in two seats pending judicial recounts or follow-up by-elections due to a tied result on election day. After the official recount held November 5,2013,the district of Rankin Inlet South was found to be still tied and Uqqummiut was won by two votes.

The fifth general election held since the creation of the territory in 1999,it was the first election held under Nunavut's new fixed election dates law,which requires elections to be held no more than four years after the prior election.

Since the adoption of a fixed election date law in 2014,general elections in Nunavut are held in the last Monday of October in the fourth calendar year following the last elections. The Legislative Assembly of Nunavut can be dissolved earlier by the Commissioner of Nunavut on the advice of the Premier of Nunavut.
