Emily Morley (born December 6, 1993) [1] is a Bahamian rower who competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Morley is from Nassau, Bahamas and studied at Ithaca College in Ithaca, New York, United States. [2] She grew up in the Bahamas until the age of fifteen when she moved to attend boarding school at the Emma Willard School in Troy, New York. [3] Her father David Morley is a swimmer who competed for the Bahamas at the 1984 Summer Olympics. [4]
She took up rowing while at Emma Willard after friends encouraged her to try out for the crew team. She rowed throughout her time at high school and was a team captain as a senior. [3]
In 2014, she took up sculling. [5] At Ithaca she is coached by Becky Robinson and sculling coach Beth Greene. [6] In 2015, she finished third in the women’s double at the head of the Schyulkill event in Philadelphia. Alongside her doubles partner Jennie Peterson she then placed fourth at the small boat collegiate championships held at Mercer Lake, New Jersey. [4]
In November 2015 she started a new training programme with the aim of qualifying for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. [7] In March 2016 attended the 2016 FISA America’s Olympic Qualification Regatta held at Laguna de Curauma in Valparaiso, Chile. [4] In order to qualify for the Olympics she needed to finish in the top six of the W1x (women’s single sculls) event. [4] She failed to qualify directly to the semifinals from her heat, and had to take part in the repechage in which she finished second. She finished fifth in her semifinal and progressed to the B Final, in which she finished fourth, to take tenth position overall. [4] She was later granted a wildcard qualification position for the women's single sculls in Rio by the World Rowing Federation after a qualified athlete did not take up her place, making Morley the first Bahamian rower to qualify for the Olympic Games. Eleanor Logan is an American rower. She is the first American rower to win a gold medal in three consecutive Olympics, a three-time Olympic champion and three-time world champion. Logan was born in Portland, Maine. Logan's home town is Boothbay Harbor and she attended the Brooks School in 2003 in North Andover, Massachusetts for high school. She is affiliated with the Lake Samish Training Center.
Olympia Aldersey is an Australian rower. She is an Australian national champion, a dual Olympian and was a 2019 World Champion in the coxless four. In 2014 she set a world's fastest ever time (6:37.31) in a women's double scull over 2000m, a record which has stood since. She rowed in the Australian women's eight at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
Alexandra Hagan is an Australian Olympic representative rower. She competed in the Australian women's eight at London 2012 and was again selected in the eight for Rio 2016. She competed and won bronze at World Rowing Championships in 2013.
Sally Kehoe is an Australian former representative rower who was a national champion, three-time Olympian and a representative at multiple world championships. Since 2014 she has held the world-record time in the women's double scull over 2000m.
Sanita Pušpure is a Latvian-born Irish professional rower. She was a back-to-back world champion in the women's single scull winning her title at the 2018 World Rowing Championships in Plovdiv and defending it at the 2019 World Rowing Championships in Ottensheim. She initially competed for Latvia at a junior level, but she moved to Ireland in 2006 and began competing for her adopted country in 2010, before gaining full Irish nationality in 2011. She was selected as the sole rowing competitor for Ireland at the 2012 Summer Olympics, where she did not win a medal. In May 2016, she qualified for the Women's single sculls at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Sanita is now head coach of UCC Rowing Club in Cork, Ireland.
Melanie Wilson is a British rower who competed for the GB rowing team. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she competed in the Women's quadruple sculls. At the 2016 Summer Olympics she won a silver medal in the women's eight.
