The May 2004 Caribbean floods was a flood event that affected the Caribbean Islands and Hispaniola from May 18,2004,to May 25,2004. Moving quickly from Central America,a low-pressure storm system brought heavy rainfall and thunderstorms to Cuba,Jamaica,Haiti,and the Dominican Republic resulting in rainfall amounts exceeding 500 mm within a 7-day period. Cities in flood-plain areas like Mapou,Haiti,and Jimani,of the Dominican Republic,experienced over 250 mm of rain between May 24 and 25,causing the Solie River to overflow,resulting in devastating environmental and infrastructure damage. With hundreds dead and thousands more displaced in Mapou and Jimani,the death toll was at its highest in decades,partly because of deforestation. Steep valley ridges and barren hillsides channeled rainwater towards valleys,creating landslides that overwhelmed and flooded cities particularly in high-poverty areas where buildings were wooden or makeshift temporary homes. In addition,inhabitants residing on these flood plains were subject to increased risk from water-borne diseases due to inadequate waste removal management and contaminated water supply due to excessive debris caused by flooding.

The 2008 Namibia floods took place in early February 2008,a rapid onset of heavy rains triggered floods in northern Namibia,leading to one of its worst floods in 50 years. The floods had killed 42 people by early March and an estimated 65,000 people were affected,primarily in the regions of Omusati,Oshikoto,Oshana,Ohangwena and Caprivi. 40,000 people were assisted by the Namibian Red Cross with 4,600 in relocation camps. Over-crowding and insanitary conditions caused health concerns in relocation camps and an outbreak of cholera was announced in March. On 14 March,the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs triggered the International Charter for "Space and Major Disasters". Staple crops were devastated and 52,000 people from flood-affected areas were considered in need of immediate of assistance to cover their basic food needs. Deputy Prime Minister Libertine Amathila declared that the government would spend 65 million Namibian dollars to assist the displaced. Long-term impacts included damage to farmland,housing,schools,roads and infrastructure across the region. The floods reduced the resilience of the population who were left vulnerable to further flooding which occurred in 2009.
The Battle of Lođa was fought during the Kosovo War in the village of Lođa first on 6-12 July 1998 and again later on 10-17 August 1998. between the Yugoslav Army against the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) and Armed Forces of the Republic of Kosova (FARK). The first battle was an operation launched to counterattack the Albanian rebels after two Yugoslav policemen patrolling the area had been killed. The first battle ended in an KLA victory,while the second operation ended in a Yugoslav victory. All of village's 284 houses and mosque were destroyed by Serbian Police with bulldozers.

Mahama Refugee Camp is a refugee camp in Kirehe District in the Eastern Province of Rwanda,near the Kagera River which is the border with Tanzania.
