Empower Orphans is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which intends to address the problems associated with orphans and abandoned children, as well as children born into homes living in poverty. The organization's goal is to help create self-sufficiency, by supplying children with the tools to gain a basic education and technical skills to enable a sustainable livelihood. In addition to education, Empower Orphans provides food, clothing, health care, and medical supplies to establish an effective learning environment.

History

The organization was started by Neha Gupta when she was 9 years old. [1] Neha Gupta, born on May 23, 1996, has changed many people's lives by not only helping orphans in India but also by supporting organisations in her home town. She was inspired to establish Empowering Orphans through visits to her grandparents in India, where she observed poverty stricken children. In 2014, Neha Gupta became the first American ever to win the International Children's Peace Prize. [2] [3] [4]

Marguerite (Maggie) Barankitse is a Burundian humanitarian activist who works to improve the welfare of children and challenge ethnic discrimination in Burundi. After rescuing 25 children from a massacre, she was forced to witness the conflicts between the Hutu and Tutsi in her country in 1993. She established Maison Shalom, a shelter that provided access to healthcare, education, and culture to over 20,000 orphan children in need. Because she protested against a third term for President Pierre Nkurunziza, she lives in exile.

The Minnesota State Public School for Dependent and Neglected Children was a residential and educational facility for wards of the state from 1886 to 1945, located in Owatonna, Minnesota, United States. The State School was created by an act of the Minnesota legislature in 1885 as an effort to provide safe, transitional housing for the state's orphaned, abandoned, and abused children. The goal was to remove at-risk children from harmful situations and place them in the State School, where they would reside in a home-like setting, receive an education, and eventually be placed with suitable farm families. Over 60 years of operation, the State School was home to a total of 10,635 children.

Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat (JKP), previously known as Sadhna Bhawan Trust, is a charitable religious organisation in India.
