Kogi State is a state in the North Central region of Nigeria, bordered to the west by the states of Ekiti and Kwara, to the north by the Federal Capital Territory, to the northeast by Nasarawa State, to the northwest by Niger State, to the southwest by the Edo and Ondo states, to the southeast by the states of Anambra and Enugu, and to the east by Benue State. It is the only state in Nigeria to border ten other states. Named after the Hausa word for river (Kogi). Kogi State was formed from parts of Benue State, Niger State, and Kwara State on 27 August 1991. The state is nicknamed the "Confluence State" because the confluence of the River Niger and the River Benue occurs next to its capital, Lokoja.
Ibrahim Idris is a Nigeria politician and businessman who served as the governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2008 and from 2008 to 2012. He is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Idris was succeeded by his brother-in-law Captain Idris Wada, who won election in December 2011 and took office in January 2012.

Edward David Onoja is a Nigerian politician who served as the deputy governor of Kogi State from 2019 to 2024. He was chief of staff to the governor of Kogi State from January 2016 to October 2019 when he assumed office as deputy governor.

Cosmos Ndukwe is a Nigerian politician. He was a Deputy Speaker representing Bende South constituency in the 6th Abia State House of Assembly. In 2023, he joined the presidential race on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
