Engelbrecht A. Nawatiseb (born 20 June 1969) is a Namibian politician. A member of the South West African People's Organization (SWAPO),he served as a member of the National Assembly from 2015 to 2020. While serving in the National Assembly,he held offices as Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises from 2015 to 2018 and as Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology from 2018 to 2020. [1] Prior to his career in politics,he attended and graduated from Otjikoto Secondary School and served as a road contractor. [1] His membership in SWAPO was briefly interrupted for about a month in 2024,when he left SWAPO to join the Landless People's Movement (LPM). [2] This decision came after Nawatiseb made calls for younger leadership within SWAPO. [3] Nawatiseb later quickly abandoned the party to rejoin SWAPO. [2]
Nawatiseb began to suffer from kidney failure in 2021;he later praised private dialysis centres for providing care for his condition. [4] In 2024,the Namibian Government sued Nawatiseb for his refusal to pay an unused travel allowance from a cancelled trip to Spain,as well as for salary overpayment. [5] [6] Nawatiseb faced controversy the same year when a video of him slapping a bartender in Tsumeb was circulated online. Nawatiseb defended his actions,stating that the bar was causing noise pollution. This claim was disputed by the bartender. [7] The video was criticised by members of the Popular Democratic Movement,to which Nawatiseb responded by describing the PDM as a "total reject in Tsumeb". [8] In 2024,Nawatiseb was accused of "orchestrating a scheme" and "rushing" to sell a house before a bank he was affiliated with was to be liquidated. [9]
Politics of Namibia takes place in a framework of a semi-presidential representative democratic republic,whereby the President of Namibia is both head of state and head of government,and of a pluriform multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by both the president and the government. Legislative power is vested in the two chambers of Parliament. The judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.
The South West Africa People's Organisation,officially known as the SWAPO Party of Namibia,is a political party and former independence movement in Namibia. Founded in 1960,it has been the governing party in Namibia since the country achieved independence in 1990. The party continues to be dominated in number and influence by the Ovambo ethnic group.
Oshikoto is one of the fourteen regions of Namibia,named after Lake Otjikoto. Its capital is Omuthiya. Further major settlements in the region are Tsumeb,Otjikoto's capital until 2008,and Oniipa. As of 2020,Oshikoto had 112,170 registered voters.
Hifikepunye Lucas Pohamba is a Namibian politician who served as the second president of Namibia from 21 March 2005 to 21 March 2015. He won the 2004 presidential election overwhelmingly as the candidate of SWAPO and was reelected in 2009. Pohamba was the president of SWAPO from 2007 until his retirement in 2015. He is a recipient of the Ibrahim Prize.
Tsumeb is a city of around 35,000 inhabitants and the largest town in the Oshikoto region in northern Namibia. Tsumeb is known as the "gateway to the north" of Namibia. It is the closest town to the Etosha National Park. Tsumeb used to be the regional capital of Oshikoto until 2008 when Omuthiya was proclaimed a town and the new capital. The area around Tsumeb forms its own electoral constituency and has a population of 44,113. The town is the site of a deep mine that in its heyday was known as "TCL",but has since been renamed the Ongopolo Mine.
Marco Mukoso Hausiku was a Namibian politician who was Deputy-Prime Minister of Namibia from 2010 to 2015.
Hage Gottfried Geingob was a Namibian politician who served as the third president of Namibia and Commander-in-Chief of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) from 2015 until his death in February 2024. Geingob was the first Prime Minister of Namibia from 1990 to 2002,and served as prime minister again from 2012 to 2015. Between 2008 and 2012 Geingob served as Minister of Trade and Industry. In November 2014,Geingob was elected president of Namibia by an overwhelming margin. In November 2017,Geingob became the third president of the ruling SWAPO Party after winning by a large margin at the party's sixth Congress. He served as the party's president until his death. In August 2018,Geingob began a one-year term as chairperson of the Southern African Development Community.
Ben Ulenga is a Namibian trade unionist,politician,and diplomat. In the 1990s,he served under the SWAPO government as a deputy minister and as an ambassador,but he left SWAPO in 1998 and founded an opposition party,the Congress of Democrats (CoD),in 1999. He was a member of the National Assembly of Namibia from 2000 to 2015 and led the CoD until 2015.
Ben Amathila is a retired Namibian politician. Amathila served in the government of Namibia with SWAPO from independence in 1990 until his retirement in April 2007.
Jerry Lukiiko Ekandjo is a Namibian politician,former anti-apartheid activist and political prisoner. He is one of the founding members of the SWAPO Youth League and has been one of the most active internal leading members of the South West Africa People's Organization (SWAPO) during the liberation struggle. He spent eight years in prison on Robben Island after being charged for inciting violence in 1973.
Utoni Daniel Nujoma is a Namibian politician who has served as Minister of Labour,Industrial Relations and Employment Creation since March 2020. He has served in various government ministerial positions in the government since 2010.

Major General Charles Dickson Ndaxu Phillip Namoloh is a Namibian diplomat,politician and military figure who served in the cabinet of Namibia as Minister of Safety and Security from March 2015 to March 2020. Namoloh has been a member of the National Assembly of Namibia since 2005;having served as Minister of Defence from 2005 to 2012 and Minister of Regional and Local Government,Housing and Rural Development from 2012 to 2015.

Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah is a Namibian politician who is Namibia's third and current vice president since February 2024. She previously served as the deputy prime minister of Namibia from 2015 to 2024. Currently the SWAPO vice president,and has retained her position and is set to become the party's first female presidential candidate in November 2024. She has also served as Namibia's Minister of International Relations and Cooperation since December 2012. From March 2010 to December 2012,she was Minister of Environment and Tourism. Nandi-Ndaitwah is a member of SWAPO,Namibia's ruling party,and a long-time member of the National Assembly. In 2017,Nandi-Ndaitwah was elected vice-president of the Swapo Party at the party's 6th Congress. She is the first woman to serve in that position.
Peter Mweshihange was a Namibian revolutionary and guerrilla leader,and after Namibian independence,a politician and diplomat. He was the Namibia's first Minister of Defence from 1990 to 1995,and first ambassador to the People's Republic of China from 1996 until his death.
Hosea Nico Kaiyamo is a Namibian politician,an author and businessman who was the first regional councillor for the Tsumeb Constituency and a member of parliament in the National Council. He was an activist for South-West Africa People's Organisation (SWAPO) in its long struggle against South African rule until Namibia obtained independence on 21 March 1990. He was elected Regional Councillor for the Tsumeb Constituency in 1993 and remained in office until 2003. He was a member of parliament in the National Council from 1993 to 2003.
Bernadus Clinton Swartbooi is a Namibian politician.
The Landless People's Movement (LPM) is a political party in Namibia. It is led by former deputy minister of lands and resettlement Bernadus Swartbooi,who serves as its president and chief change campaigner,and Henny Seibeb,the party's deputy leader. The party has four seats in parliament,which are occupied by the Party's President,Bernadus Swartbooi,Mootu Utaara,Isaacks Edison and Seibeb Henry.
Henny Hendly Seibeb is a Namibian politician and was a Member of Parliament who serves as Deputy Leader and Chief Strategist (DLCS) of the Landless People's Movement political party which he formed alongside Bernadus Swartbooi in December 2016.
