Erdenes Tavantolgoy (abbreviated as ETT JSC) is the largest coal exporter in Mongolia. It is a state-owned company. [1]

In December 2022, protests broke out in response to the company exporting coal to China. [2] [3]

Mongolia sent a delegation to compete at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy from 10–26 February 2006. The delegation consisted of two cross-country skiers, Erdene-Ochiryn Ochirsüren and Khürelbaataryn Khash-Erdene. Their best finish in any event was 68th in the women's 10 kilometer classical by Ochirsüren. The same two competitors would return to the Olympics four years later representing Mongolia at the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The Erdene Zuu Monastery is probably the earliest surviving Buddhist monastery in Mongolia. Located in Övörkhangai Province, approximately 2 km north-east from the center of Kharkhorin and adjacent to the ancient city of Karakorum, it is part of the Orkhon Valley Cultural Landscape World Heritage Site. The monastery is affiliated with the Gelug sect of Tibetan Buddhism.

Alag-Erdene is a sum (district) of Khövsgöl aimag (province). The area is about 4,500 km², of which 1,460 km² are forest, and 2,760 km² are pasture. In 2005, the sum had 2992 inhabitants, including some Darkhad, Khotogoid, and Uriankhai. The center, officially named Mankhan is situated close to the road from Mörön to Khatgal, 62 km north of Mörön and 733 kilometers from Ulaanbaatar.

Tavan Tolgoi is one of the world's largest untapped coking and thermal coal deposits, located in the Ömnögovi Province in southern Mongolia. It has a total estimated resource of 6.4 billion tonnes, one quarter of which is high quality coking coal. It is divided into six sections: Tsankhi, Ukhaa Khudag, Bor tolgoi, Borteeg, and Southwest and Eastern coalfields. The Tsankhi section is the largest part, and is divided into East and West Tsankhi - these have had the most focus recently.

Badmaanyambuugiin Bat-Erdene is a Mongolian politician and athlete. Bat-Erdene is widely regarded in Mongolia as one of the most successful, long lasting and celebrated wrestlers, where he won in national non-jacketed wrestling formats as well as winning a gold medal in the Sambo jacket wrestling in the 1989 World Sambo Championships in the over 100kg heavyweight division. He was also Defense Minister of Mongolia from 2016 to July 2017.

Mongolia participated in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada from 12–28 February 2010. The Mongolian delegation consisted of two cross-country skiers, Khürelbaataryn Khash-Erdene and Erdene-Ochiryn Ochirsüren. The delegation's best finish in any event was 73rd by Ochirsüren in the Women's 10 kilometre freestyle.

On the night of May 10, 2011 an ethnic Mongol herdsman was killed by a coal truck driver near Xilinhot, Inner Mongolia, China. The incident, alongside grievances over mining development in the region and the perceived erosion of traditional lifestyle of indigenous peoples, led to a series of Mongol protests across Inner Mongolia. Some 2000 students participated in protests at Communist Party headquarters of the West Ujimqin Banner, followed by demonstrations by secondary school students in the Xilinhot area. Select secondary schools and universities with large ethnic Mongol populations were reportedly under "lockdown". The Inner Mongolia government under Hu Chunhua tightened security in Inner Mongolian cities, including dispatching People's Armed Police troops to central Hohhot.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Mining in Mongolia</span>

Mining is important to the national economy of Mongolia. Mongolia is one of the 29 resource-rich developing countries identified by the International Monetary Fund and exploration of copper and coal deposits are generating substantial additional revenue. Coal, copper, and gold are the principal reserves mined in Mongolia. Several gold mines are located about 110 kilometres (68 mi) north of Ulaanbaatar, such as Boroo Gold Mine and Gatsuurt Gold Mine. Khotgor Coal Mine is an open-pit coal mining site about 120 kilometres (75 mi) west of Ulaangom. Ömnögovi Province in the south of Mongolia is home to large scale mining projects such as the Tavan Tolgoi coal mine and the Oyu Tolgoi copper mine. Oyu Tolgoi mine is reported to have the potential to boost the national economy by a third but is subject to dispute over how the profits should be shared. The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has estimated that 71 percent of the income from the mine would go to Mongolia.

The 2017 EAFF E-1 Football Championship was the 7th edition of the EAFF E-1 Football Championship, the football championship of East Asia. It was held in Japan in December 2017. Through the agreement between EAFF and ASEAN Football Federation (AFF), the winner of the tournament will qualified for the AFF–EAFF Champions Trophy.

Selenge Erdene-Ochir is a Mongolian fashion model and a former winner of Miss Mongolia-World. She was the first Mongolian ever to compete and work for the fashion channel "FTV". She won "First Runner Up" and "Ambassador of Mongolia" award at the "Miss Fashion TV" models contest.

Batbayaryn Khash-Erdene is a Mongolian footballer who plays as a forward for Mongolian Premier League club Anduud City and the Mongolian national team.

Events in the year 2022 in Mongolia.

Mass protests and riots began in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar on 4 December 2022. The reason for the protest was a corruption scandal involving the theft of $12.9 billion worth of coal.
