Eric Bodden

Eric Bodden (born 1980 in Aachen) is a German computer scientist. He holds the Chair of Secure Software Engineering at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute of the Paderborn University [1] and is Director of Software Engineering and IT Security at the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechatronic Design (IEM). [2] He is also head of the engineering department in the Collaborative Research Centre 1119 CROSSING at the Technical University of Darmstadt. [3]

Career

Bodden's undergraduate studies consist of a computer science degree at RWTH Aachen University with an exchange year at the University of Kent. [4] His diploma thesis won the 2005 undergraduate category of the ACM Student Research Competition. [5] From 2006 to 2009, Bodden did a PhD at McGill University. [4] [6]

From 2009 to 2015, Eric Bodden worked at the Technische Universität Darmstadt. Since the summer of 2013, Bodden has held a cooperative professorship at the Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology  [ de ] and the Technische Universität Darmstadt. [4] [6]

Since 2016, Bodden has worked at the Heinz Nixdorf Institute at the University of Paderborn and been a director for software engineering and IT security at the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechatronic Systems Design. [4] [6]

Bodden is a member of Acatech, [7] the BITKOM Management Club, [8] Distinguished Member of the ACM [9] [10] [11] and the Gesellschaft für Informatik.

Awards

In 2024, the European Research Council awarded Bodden an ERC Advanced Grant on Self-Optimizing Static Program Analysis. In 2014, Eric Bodden received the Heinz Maier Leibnitz Prize of the German Research Foundation. [12] The Technische Universität Darmstadt team placed second in the 2014 German IT Security Award from the Horst Görtz Foundation [13] and the first place in 2016. [14] In 2019, Bodden was named an ACM Distinguished Scientist. [15] Five of his publications have received the ACM Distinguished Paper Award. [16] Three of his previous doctoral students received the Ernst Denert Prize for Software Engineering. [17] [18]

Robert Piloty was a German computer scientist and former Professor of Communications Processing at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the Technische Universität Darmstadt. He was one of the pioneers in the construction of program-controlled computer systems and the founding father of computer science courses in Germany. As a member of the advisory board and chairman of the commission for the introduction of computer science studies in Germany, he was significantly involved in the introduction and design of computer science studies throughout Germany. His efforts also led to the establishment of the first computer science course at TU Darmstadt.

The German Association for Mathematical Logic and for Basic Research in the Exact Sciences is the learned society representing the interdisciplinary research area of Logic (within the disciplines of Mathematics, Philosophy, Computer Science, and Linguistics) in German-speaking countries. It was founded in 1962 by Wilhelm Ackermann, Gisbert Hasenjaeger, Hans Hermes, Jürgen von Kempski, Paul Lorenzen, Arnold Schmidt, and Kurt Schütte. Its members are researchers in Mathematical Logic, Philosophical Logic, and Theoretical Computer Science. Biannually, the DVMLG organises the Colloquium Logicum, an international research conference in logic. The DVMLG forms the National Committee for Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science representing the Ordinary Member Germany within the Division of Logic, Methodology and Philosophy of Science and Technology (DLMPST).
