Eric Shuck (born 1976) is a judge of the West Virginia Family Courts for the 13th Family Court Circuit,serving Raleigh,Summers,and Wyoming counties in the U.S. state of West Virginia. [1]
Shuck was born in Beckley,West Virginia,but raised in Raleigh and Summers counties. Shuck has a bachelor's degree in legal studies from the College of West Virginia (formerly Mountain State University) and a Juris Doctor degree from West Virginia University College of Law.[ citation needed ]
Before his election in 2016,Shuck was a member of the Raleigh County Public Defender's Office since 2002. [1] He worked as a paralegal. Shuck was elected in the general election on May 10,2016,defeating then-sitting family court judge Bruce Lazenby in the election. [2] [3]
Shuck was investigated and admonished by the West Virginia Judicial Investigation Commission for the same misconduct as disgraced judge Louise Goldston of the 13th Family court circuit. [4] The complaint filed against each details the controversy of their conduct in entering individuals homes without search warrants and conducting warrantless searches. [4] Most notably,Goldston entered the home of Matt Gibson,during a court proceeding regarding Gibson's divorce,and unlawfully searched it. Gibson filed a lawsuit against Goldston,alleging the misconduct and unlawful search as a violation of the West Virginia and United States constitutions. [5] Goldston retired from the bench in early 2023. [6]

Jack Robert Nuzum (1921–1998) served several years as Circuit Judge representing Randolph County in Elkins,West Virginia from 1976–1991. Prior to that,he was also a legislator,for Taylor County,West Virginia and then,neighboring Randolph County,West Virginia in the West Virginia Legislature as a member of the House of Delegates. After retirement from the judicial bench,Nuzum served as a Senior Judge for the State of West Virginia's Supreme Court System,occasionally being named to act in the place of other circuit judges when necessary. For many years,Jack R. Nuzum was a law partner of former West Virginia Governor Herman G. Kump in the Elkins law firm of Kump,Kump,and Nuzum. Herman Guy Kump was the 19th Governor of the state of West Virginia.
The West Virginia Circuit Courts are the West Virginia state trial courts of general jurisdiction. They are the only state trial courts in West Virginia that are courts of record. West Virginia's 55 counties are divided into 31 circuits,each comprising anywhere from one to four counties. Different circuits have different numbers of judges;11 circuits have only a single judge. Effective with the 2024 election,the circuits will be realigned into 30 circuits,with only one having a single judge.

On August 17,2018,he announced his candidacy for the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia Division 1. He was not elected,placing third among ten candidates. Wilkes retired in January 2019,but continued to serve as a senior judge.
John A. Hutchison is an American lawyer who served as a justice of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia from 2018 to 2024. He served as chief justice in 2022.
