The Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation is a senior United States government position in the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Robert Cardillo is a Distinguished Fellow at Georgetown University’s Center for Security and Emerging Technology. Prior to this appointment,he was the sixth Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency and was sworn in October 3,2014. He was previously selected by Director of National Intelligence James Clapper to serve as the first Deputy Director of National Intelligence for Intelligence Integration in September 2010. Clapper said in a statement that the position would "elevate information sharing and collaboration" between those who collect intelligence and those who analyze it. Cardillo previously served as Deputy Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA). Prior to that,he served as the Deputy Director for Analysis,DIA,and Director,Analysis and Production,National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA).

Siboni is a senior expert on national security,military strategy and operations,military technology,cyber warfare,and force buildup. Siboni is as a professor at the Francisco de Vitoria University in Madrid.

On November 24,2014,a hacker group identifying itself as "Guardians of Peace" leaked a release of confidential data from the film studio Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE). The data included personal information about Sony Pictures employees and their families,emails between employees,information about executive salaries at the company,copies of then-unreleased Sony films,plans for future Sony films,scripts for certain films,and other information. The perpetrators then employed a variant of the Shamoon wiper malware to erase Sony's computer infrastructure.
Susan M. Gordon served as Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence until August 15,2019. Prior to assuming that role,she was the Deputy Director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA),having assumed the position on January 1,2015. Before joining the NGA,she served as director of the CIA's Information Operations Center and senior cyber adviser to the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Gordon worked for the Central Intelligence Agency for over 25 years.
Alleged Russian interference in the 2020 United States elections was a matter of concern at the highest level of national security within the United States government,in addition to the computer and social media industries. In February and August 2020,United States Intelligence Community (USIC) experts warned members of Congress that Russia was interfering in the 2020 presidential election in then-President Donald Trump's favor. USIC analysis released by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (DNI) in March 2021 found that proxies of Russian intelligence promoted and laundered misleading or unsubstantiated narratives about Joe Biden "to US media organizations,US officials,and prominent US individuals,including some close to former President Trump and his administration." The New York Times reported in May 2021 that federal investigators in Brooklyn began a criminal investigation late in the Trump administration into possible efforts by several current and former Ukrainian officials to spread unsubstantiated allegations about corruption by Joe Biden,including whether they had used Trump personal attorney Rudy Giuliani as a channel.
Double Dragon is a hacking organization with alleged ties to the Chinese Ministry of State Security (MSS). Classified as an advanced persistent threat,the organization was named by the United States Department of Justice in September 2020 in relation to charges brought against five Chinese and two Malaysian nationals for allegedly compromising more than 100 companies around the world.
In 2020,a major cyberattack suspected to have been committed by a group backed by the Russian government penetrated thousands of organizations globally including multiple parts of the United States federal government,leading to a series of data breaches. The cyberattack and data breach were reported to be among the worst cyber-espionage incidents ever suffered by the U.S.,due to the sensitivity and high profile of the targets and the long duration in which the hackers had access. Within days of its discovery,at least 200 organizations around the world had been reported to be affected by the attack,and some of these may also have suffered data breaches. Affected organizations worldwide included NATO,the U.K. government,the European Parliament,Microsoft and others.
