Union Sportive de la Médina d'Alger ; known as USM Alger or simply USMA for short, is a football club based in the inner suburbs of Algiers. The club was founded in 1937 and its colours are red and black. Their home stadium, Omar Hamadi Stadium, has a capacity of 17,500 spectators. The club is currently playing in the Algerian Ligue Professionnelle 1.
In the 2014–15 season, USM Alger competed in the Ligue 1 for the 37th season, as well as the Algerian Cup. It was their 20th consecutive season in the top flight of Algerian football. The club also competed in the CAF Champions League, the Algerian Super Cup and the Algerian Cup. The club was managed by Hubert Velud, until his sacking on 1 February 2015. He was replaced by Otto Pfister on 19 February. On May 18, Pfister was sacked as coach of USM Alger.
In the 2010–11 season, USM Alger competed in the Ligue 1 for the 33rd time, as well as the Algerian Cup. It was their 16th consecutive season in the top flight of Algerian football.
In the 2011–12 season, USM Alger competed in the Ligue 1 for the 34th time, as well as the Algerian Cup. It was their 17th consecutive season in the top flight of Algerian football. USM Alger lost to USM El Harrach 1–4 (P) in the quarterfinals of the Algerian Cup.
In the 2012–13 season, USM Alger competed in the Ligue 1 for the 35th time, as well as the Algerian Cup. It was their 18th consecutive season in the top flight of Algerian football.

They will be competing in Ligue 1, the Algerian Cup, Algerian League Cup, CAF Cup, and the African Cup Winners' Cup. 1999–2000 season was the worst season since the rise of the Red and Black and finished in last place and Rabah Saâdane was dismissed from his position as coach after he had failed to achieve what was required in all competitions but in this season, there was no fall to the second division, Saïd Allik stated that it is an opportunity to inject new life into the team in order to gain control of Algerian football, also USM Alger disqualified in 2000 African Cup Winners' Cup to be punished not to participate in any African competition for one year because of the participation an ineligible of goalkeeper Burkinabé Siaka Coulibaly against JS du Ténéré. in the Algerian League Cup arrived to the semi-final round and lost to CR Belouizdad.
The 2016–17 Algerian Cup was the 53rd edition of the Algerian Cup. The eventual winners were CR Belouizdad who qualified for the 2018 CAF Confederation Cup.

The ES Sétif–USM Alger rivalry is a football rivalry between Sétif-based ES Sétif and USM Alger of Algiers. The two clubs together won 42 titles from the Ligue Professionnelle 1, Algerian Cup and Super Cup at the local level, Regionally the Arab Champions League And internationally in CAF Champions League, CAF Super Cup and the defunct Afro-Asian Club Championship.
