The men's road race, a part of the cycling events at the 2008 Summer Olympics, took place on August 9 at the Urban Road Cycling Course in Beijing. It started at 11:00 China Standard Time (UTC+8), and was scheduled to last until 17:30 later that day. The 245.4-kilometre (152.5 mi) course ran north across the heart of the Beijing metropolitan area, passing such landmarks as the Temple of Heaven, the Great Hall of the People, Tiananmen Square and the Beijing National Stadium. After rolling over relatively flat terrain for 78.8 km (49.0 mi) north of the Beijing city center, the route entered a decisive circuit encompassing seven loops on a 23.8 km (14.8 mi) section up and down the Badaling Pass, including ramps as steep as a 10 percent gradient.
Adrien Niyonshuti is a Rwandan former professional bicycle racer, who rode professionally for Team Dimension Data from 2009 to 2017. In 2021, he worked as a directeur sportif for UCI Continental team Skol Adrien Cycling Academy. In 2023, he will be leading the Benin National Cycling team to prepare for the UCI Championships to be held on the continent in 2025.
Laurent Didier is a Luxembourgish former professional road bicycle racer, who competed between 2006 and 2018 for the Kuota–Senges, Designa Køkken, Saxo Bank–SunGard and Trek–Segafredo teams.
Christine Majerus is a Luxembourgish former professional road and cyclo-cross cyclist, who rode for UCI Women's WorldTeam Team SD Worx–Protime and its predecessors from 2014 until her retirement in 2024. She won the 2013 Sparkassen Giro Bochum one-day road race and the general classification of the 2019 Holland Ladies Tour.

Lucien Didier is a former Luxembourgian cyclist. He competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics and the 1976 Summer Olympics. He rode in ten Grand Tours between 1978 and 1984, including six Tours de France. In each of his Tour starts he completed the race and helped his team leader to overall victory - Bernard Hinault four times and Laurent Fignon twice. He was the son-in law of racing cyclist Bim Diederich and is the father of racing cyclist Laurent Didier.
Chantal Hoffmann is a Luxembourgish former road cyclist, who rode professionally between 2014 and 2019, entirely for the Lotto–Soudal Ladies team. She participated at the 2011 UCI Road World Championships and at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Olivia Rose Podmore was a New Zealand professional racing cyclist. She represented her country at the 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2018 Commonwealth Games.
Erny Schweitzer is a Luxembourgish former swimmer. He competed in the men's 200 metre breaststroke at the 1960 Summer Olympics.
