Rick Peckham is a retired play-by-play broadcaster for the NHL's Tampa Bay Lightning hockey team and the 2020 recipient of the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award. Peckham served as the play-by-play announcer for the Hartford Whalers from 1984 through 1995. He has also broadcast NHL games on ESPN (1987–88) and SportsChannel America (1988–92). Through 1977–84, he called games on television and radio for the AHL's Rochester Americans. U.S. Route 23 (US 23) is a part of the U.S. Highway System that travels from Jacksonville, Florida to Mackinaw City, Michigan. In the U.S. state of Tennessee, the highway travels 57.5 miles (92.5 km) in the northeastern part of the state from the North Carolina state line at Sam's Gap in the Bald Mountains, north to the Virginia state line in Kingsport. With a predominant concurrency with Interstate 26 (I-26), US 23 is a divided four-lane freeway that follows Corridor B of the Appalachian Development Highway System (ADHS) and serves as a major thoroughfare in the Tri-Cities. Although I-26 is technically an east-west route, the highway predominantly travels in a north-south alignment in Tennessee. The route reaches a maximum elevation of 3,760 feet (1,150 m) at the North Carolina state line, which is the highest elevation on the Interstate Highway System east of the Mississippi River.

The 1988–89 season was Kilmarnock's 87th in Scottish League Competitions. After a poor run of results, manager Eddie Morrison was sacked in November 1988. Jim Clark initially took over as caretaker before the club hired Jim Fleeting for the rest of the season. Less than two months into the job, he sensationally sacked centre half Kenny Brannigan who was sent off for head butting former team mate Derek Cook three minutes into the league game with Queen of The South. Despite a 6-0 victory in their last game, the club was relegated to the third tier at the end of the season for the first time on a goal difference by just one goal.
