Espegrend (also known as Espeland) is a marine biological field station located in Bergen, Norway. The station is located close to the airport Flesland, 20 kilometers south of Bergen. [1]

Overview

The Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Bergen has specialized laboratories and research installations in the main campus in downtown Bergen. It is also responsible for the Marine biological field station at Espeland. The Station is located in the Raunefjord, with deep sea fauna easily available. The station has good mesocosm facilities, a research vessel RV Aurelia, and good facilities for benthic and planktonic sampling. Espegrend has a number of specialised facilities. It is well known for is mesocosm facility. Espegrend has very good access to diverse and well described marine habitats and model environments. The station comprises a boarding house, boats, laboratories and basic equipment for marine research. [2] [3]

Pymatuning Laboratory of Ecology

The Pymatuning Laboratory of Ecology (PLE) is a year-round ecology field station of the University of Pittsburgh Department of Biological Sciences located in Linesville and South Shenango Township on the shores Pymatuning Lake in Pennsylvania. The station contains research facilities and equipment, conducts undergraduate education and courses, and serves as center for conferences, symposia, and retreats. The Pyatuning Laboratory hosts researchers from the University of Pittsburgh as well as those from universities throughout the nation and world, which have included, among others, researchers form Duke University, the University of Virginia, the University of Georgia, the University of Miami. Likewise, course instructors at the lab come from the University of Pittsburgh, but also have included instructors from other institutions including Georgia Tech, the University of Connecticut, and the National Aviary. In addition, the University of Pittsburgh has instituted a collaborative program for study at the Pymatuning Lab with other area universities in which students that are enrolled through any of these institutions register, pay tuition, and receive credit at their home institutions. Schools participating in the collaborative program include Clarion University, Edinboro University, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and Slippery Rock University.

Arna (municipality) Former municipality in Hordaland, Norway

Arna is a former municipality in the old Hordaland county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1964 until 1972. It encompassed the northeastern part of the Bergen Peninsula, along the Sørfjorden, bordering the city of Bergen across the mountains to the west. The administrative centre of the municipality was the village of Indre Arna. The municipality stretched from the village of Ytre Arna to Trengereid along the coast and then inland about 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) to the Espeland area. Today, the area of the former municipality makes up the borough of Arna in the city of Bergen.
