The Arena of Valor event at the 2022 Asian Games took place from 24 to 27 September 2023 at the Hangzhou Esports Centre in Hangzhou, China.
This tournament awarded the first-ever gold medal for esports, which debuted as a regular sport for this edition of the games. [2] [3]
An "Asian Games Version" of Arena of Valor which reduced the "amount of socialization, commercialization, and non-battle systems" from the standard game was made specifically for the tournament. [4]
Ten teams are drawn to four groups. All but one group had three teams with the fourth group only having two teams. Four teams got byes to the quarterfinals and faced the winners of each group.

The 2022 Asian Games, officially the 19th Asian Games also known as Hangzhou 2022, is a continental multi-sport event currently being held from 23 September to 8 October 2023 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China. The games marked the 110th anniversary since the creation of the first continental event, starting with the 1913 Far Eastern Championship Games.
Arena of Valor, formerly Strike of Kings, is an international adaptation of Honor of Kings, a multiplayer online battle arena developed by TiMi Studio Group and published by Level Infinite for Android, iOS and Nintendo Switch for markets outside Mainland China. As of September 2018, the game has grossed over $140 million outside China. Arena of Valor was one of six Esports video games featured at the 2018 Asian Games, 2019 Southeast Asian Games, 2021 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, and 2021 SEA Games as part of the competitive sport. Arena of Valor was published in other regions by Garena, DeNA, Actoz SG and TiMi Studio Group.
Esports were featured at the 2018 Asian Games as a demonstration sport, meaning medals won in this sport would not be counted in the official overall medal tally. It was held from 26 August to 1 September 2018. Six video games were featured in the demonstration event, Arena of Valor, Clash Royale, Hearthstone, League of Legends, Pro Evolution Soccer, and StarCraft II.
The People's Republic of China competed at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, from 18 August to 2 September 2018. China won 289 medals, leading the medal count for the tenth time in Asian Games history.
Esports at the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines was held at the Filoil Flying V Centre in San Juan, Metro Manila from 5 to 10 December 2019. It was the first esports contest as a medal event in a multi-sport competition sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee after the discipline featured as a demonstration sport at the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta, Indonesia.

Esports has been one of the regular Asian Games sports since 2022 edition in Huangzhou, China. It was first introduced as a demonstration sport in 2018 in Jakarta and Palembang.
