Essam Shiha is an Egyptian lawyer, politician and human rights activist. Shiha is a member of the National Council for Human Rights, president of the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights and former member of supreme committee of The Wafd Party [1]

Shiha was one of the protegees of one of the party's historical leader Fouad Serageddin and for decades has been an influential leading member of the party. Shiha led a reformist faction of the Wafd [2] that opposed El-Sayyid el-Badawi's leadership of the party which led to his suspension for a few years. However Shiha was reinstated to his old post in the party after Bahaa El-Din Abu Shoka replaced el Badawi as party leader.

Shiha is also an ardent defender of human rights and basic freedoms, and occupied the post of Secretary General of the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights, [3] one of Egypt's oldest and largest human rights associations; and after the death of EOHR's president Hafez Abu Seada Shiha was unanimously elected by the board of trustees to replace him as president.

In October 2021 the Egyptian House of Representatives announced the new composition of Egypt's National human rights institution the National Council for Human Rights and Essam Shiha was among the principal new appointees. As a member of NCHR Shiha pledged to resume his efforts to promote and defend human rights and basic freedoms in Egypt.

Egyptian Organization for Human Rights

The Egyptian Organization for Human Rights (EOHR), founded in April 1985 and with its headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, is a non-profit NGO and one of the longest-standing bodies for the defense of human rights in Egypt. It investigates, monitors, and reports on human rights violations and defends people's rights regardless of the identity, gender or color of the victim. EOHR faces any human rights violations made either by governmental or non-governmental parties. It is registered with the United Nations and works with other human rights groups.

Daughter of the Notable leftist Egyptian poet Ahmed Fouad Negm and Islamist Egyptian thinker and journalist Safinaz Kazem, she obtained her BA in English Language from the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University and has since worked for the Egyptian Nile Television Network (NTN) as a translator and news editor.

Essam el-Erian Egyptian politician

Essam al-Din Muhammad Hussein el-Erian was an Egyptian physician and politician. He was the vice chairman of the Freedom And Justice party. Formerly he was a member of the Guidance Bureau of the Muslim Brotherhood. He was elected as a parliament member in the 2011–12 Egyptian parliamentary election. Egyptian Constituent Assembly of 2012

The Egyptian Constituent Assembly of 2012 (CA) is the committee for the creation of a new Constitution of Egypt. The Muslim Brotherhood had announced that the Constituent Assembly would vote on the constitution on 29 November 2012. The Constituent Assembly will be able to avoid its possible dissolution by voting on the constitution earlier than the release of a ruling by the Supreme Constitutional Court on the assembly's legitimacy; the ruling was expected to occur on 2 December 2012. The court has postponed the verdict in response to protests. The Constituent Assembly approved the constitution on 29 November 2012; more than 16 hours were spent voting on its articles.

Mohamed Bahaa Eldeen Abou Shaka is an Egyptian lawyer and politician. He is a professor of public law, and the current President of the New Wafd Party.

2020 Egyptian Senate election

Senate elections were held in Egypt on 11 and 12 August 2020, with the diaspora voting on 9 and 10 August. Run-offs took place on 8–9 September, and their results were announced on 16 September.

Hisham Barakat Egyptian prosecutor general

Hisham Muhammad Zaki Barakat was Prosecutor General of Egypt from 2013 to 2015. During his term as state prosecutor, he was responsible for thousands of controversial prosecutions, including several widely deemed politically motivated resulting in death sentences for hundreds of Muslim Brotherhood members and supporters of deposed Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi. He was assassinated in a car bombing on 29 June 2015.

Hafez Abu Seada Egyptian politician

Hafez Abu Seada was an Egyptian politician, human rights activist, and Chairman of the Egyptian Organization for Human rights, Egypt's oldest human rights NGO, most known for his campaigns against torture and police brutality in Egypt. Abu Seada was also member of the National Council for Human Rights, Egypt's national human rights institution.

Bahey Hassan

Bahey eldin Hassan is an Egyptian human rights defender and one of the founders of the Egyptian human rights movement in the 1980s. Hassan currently serves as the Director of the Cairo Institute for Human Rights Studies (CIHRS), which he cofounded in 1993. In 2014, and after receiving death threats for his human rights work, Hassan had to leave Egypt and currently lives in self-imposed exile in France. Hassan is also a journalist, lecturer, author and editor of several published articles, papers and books on human rights and democratic transformation in the Arab region.

2018 Egyptian presidential election

Presidential elections were held in Egypt between 26 and 28 March 2018, though Egyptians abroad voted from 16 to 18 March 2018. On 19 January, incumbent President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi formally announced he would run for a second and final term. El-Sisi won the election with 97%, according to the official results. A runoff would have taken place 19 to 21 April outside the country and 24 to 26 April within the country if no candidate had reached 50% of the vote. The election had a turnout of roughly 41%, lower than the 2014 election's 47%. A 2019 constitutional change allowed El-Sisi to remain in power until 2030 instead of 2022.

Diaa Rashwan

Diaa Rashwan is an Egyptian journalist, politician and the current Chairman of the State Information Service. Rashwan graduated from Cairo University in 1981 with a Bachelor's degree in political science from Cairo University, he also received a Master's degree in the same field from the Paris based Sorbonne University in 1985. Rashwan began his career in Al-Ahram Center for Political and Strategic Studies in the early 1980s as a researcher and has been an expert scholar over there since then and many years later in 2011 he became the Director of the Center.
