Estadio Polideportivo Sur is a multi-purpose stadium in Envigado, Colombia that is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium has a capacity of 11,000 people and was built in 1992. Envigado FC play their home matches at this stadium. [1]

The stadium was renovated in 2009 to prepare for the 2010 South American Games held in Medellín. The renovations added a roof to the main section to protect the fans from weather and beautified the green areas outside the stadium. [2]

The 2019 Categoría Primera A season was the 72nd season of Colombia's top-flight football league. The season began on 25 January and concluded on 7 December. Junior entered the season as defending champions having won the 2018 Finalización tournament and successfully defended the title in the Torneo Apertura, beating Deportivo Pasto 5–4 on penalties after a 1–1 draw on aggregate to claim their ninth domestic league title on 12 June. The 2020 Copa Colombia, officially the 2020 Copa BetPlay Dimayor for sponsorship reasons, was the 18th edition of the Copa Colombia, the national cup competition for clubs of DIMAYOR. The tournament was contested by 36 teams and began on 19 February 2020. It concluded on 11 February 2021, with the champions qualifying for the 2022 Copa Sudamericana. Independiente Medellín were the defending champions and successfully defended their title by beating Deportes Tolima 5–4 on penalties in the final after tying 1–1 over 90 minutes.

Deportivo Independiente Medellín Femenino is a professional women's football club based in Medellín, Colombia. They are the women's football section of Independiente Medellín and they currently play in the Colombian Women's Football League, the top level women's football league in Colombia. The club was founded in 2019 in an alliance between Independiente Medellín and Formas Íntimas. Their crosstown rivals are Atlético Nacional with whom they contest El Clásico Paisa. The club plays their home matches at the Estadio Atanasio Girardot, although it plays some of its home matches at the Estadio Polideportivo Sur in Envigado and at the Estadio Metropolitano Ciudad de Itagüí in Itagüí.
