The Federated States of Micronesia, or simply Micronesia, is an island country in Micronesia, a subregion of Oceania. The federation consists of four states—from west to east, Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei and Kosrae—that are spread across the western Pacific. Together, the states comprise around 607 islands that cover a longitudinal distance of almost 2,700 km (1,700 mi) just north of the equator. They lie northeast of Indonesia and Papua New Guinea, south of Guam and the Marianas, west of Nauru and the Marshall Islands, east of Palau and the Philippines, about 2,900 km (1,800 mi) north of eastern Australia, 3,400 km (2,100 mi) southeast of Japan, and some 4,000 km (2,485 mi) southwest of the main islands of the Hawaiian Islands.
Majuro is the capital and largest city of the Marshall Islands. It is also a large coral atoll of 64 islands in the Pacific Ocean. It forms a legislative district of the Ratak (Sunrise) Chain of the Marshall Islands. The atoll has a land area of 9.7 square kilometers (3.7 sq mi) and encloses a lagoon of 295 square kilometers (114 sq mi). As with other atolls in the Marshall Islands, Majuro consists of narrow land masses. It has a tropical trade wind climate, with an average temperature of 27 °C (81 °F).
Woleai, also known as Oleai, is a coral atoll of 22 islands in the western Caroline Islands in the Pacific Ocean, forming a legislative district in the Yap State in the Federated States of Micronesia, and located approximately 57 kilometers west-northwest of Ifalik and 108 kilometers northeast of Eauripik. Woleai is also the name of the largest of the islets constituting the atoll, lying to the northeast.
Chuuk Lagoon, previously Truk Atoll, is an atoll in the central Pacific. It lies about 1,800 kilometres northeast of New Guinea and is part of Chuuk State within the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). A protective reef, 225 kilometres (140 mi) around, encloses a natural harbour 79 by 50 km, with an area of 2,130 km2 (820 sq mi). It has a land area of 93.07 square kilometres, with a population of 36,158 people and a maximal elevation of 443 metres (1,453 ft). Weno city on Weno Island functions as both the atoll's capital and the state capital, and is the largest city in the FSM with its 13,700 people.
Operation Hailstone was a massive United States Navy air and surface attack on Truk Lagoon on 17–18 February 1944, conducted as part of the American offensive drive against the Imperial Japanese Navy in the Pacific Ocean theatre.
Kapingamarangi is an atoll and a municipality in the state of Pohnpei of the Federated States of Micronesia. It is by far the most southerly atoll or island of the country and the Caroline Islands, 300 km (190 mi) south of the next southerly atoll, Nukuoro, and 740 km (460 mi) southwest of the main island of Pohnpei state; it forms a Polynesian outlier.
Tonowas (or Tonoas), also known by its Spanish name of Dublon, is an island in the Chuuk (formerly Truk) lagoon, Federated States of Micronesia. It has an area of 8.8 km2 and the population was 3,200 at the time of the last census (1980). A narrow single-lane track rings the island, allowing land access to the small villages (Nechap, Kuchua, Sangku, Enin, Yongku and the island of Etten) Five schools and Japanese military ruins, which include the remains of a seaplane anchorage and large fuel storage tanks. A Japanese administrative center dating from the 1920-1930s mandate period can still be found, and is currently used as a government building.
Chuuk International Airport is an airport located on Weno, the main island of the State of Chuuk in the Federated States of Micronesia.
Fefan is the third largest inhabited island of the Chuuk Lagoon in the Federated States of Micronesia. It has an area of 13.2 km2 and a population of about 3,000 and is the second largest municipality in the Chuuk State. The northern part of the island is hilly and peaks at 298 meters above sea level.
Faichuk are a group of four islands separated from one another by narrow canals in the western part of Truk Lagoon, Chuuk, Micronesia. The tightly knit islands are considered as one for statistical and administrative purposes.

Param is a municipality and an island in the Southern Nomoneas (Shiki) Islands of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia.
Fumizuki was one of twelve Mutsuki-class destroyers, built for the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) during the 1920s. During the Pacific War, she participated in the Philippines Campaign in December 1941 and the Dutch East Indies Campaign in early 1942. In March, she was assigned to convoy escort duties in and around Malaya and the Dutch East Indies until she was transferred to Rabaul in early 1943 to ferry troops around New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
Uman Island is an island of Uman municipality in Chuuk State, Federated States of Micronesia, with an area of 4.70 km². Highest elevation is Mt. Uroras with 273 meters.
Fujikawa Maru was a refrigerated cargo ship originally built in 1938 for the Toyo Kaiun Kisen Kaisha and was requisitioned by the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II for use as an auxiliary armed aircraft transport or ferry. She was rerated as an auxiliary transport 1 January, 1944. She was sunk in Truk Lagoon in 1944 during Operation Hailstone and is now a leading wreck diving site for scuba divers.
Fayu Atoll is an uninhabited atoll in the state of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia. It is located 36 km to the west of Nomwin Atoll and 104 km north of Chuuk Lagoon.
Heian Maru (平安丸) was a Japanese ocean liner launched in 1930 and operated primarily on the NYK line's trans-Pacific service between Yokohama and Seattle. Shortly before the outbreak of the Pacific War, it was requisitioned by the Imperial Japanese Navy and converted to use as an auxiliary submarine tender. In 1944 it was sunk by American aircraft at Chuuk Lagoon during Operation Hailstone. Its submerged hulk – the largest of Chuuk's "Ghost Fleet" – remains a popular scuba diving destination.
Nomoneas are a group of islands of Chuuk Lagoon, Chuuk, Micronesia. They are part of the Caroline Islands.
Kimiuo Aisek Memorial Museum is a museum in Chuuk State, in the Federated States of Micronesia. It is the first museum to be established on the island.
US Naval Base Carolines included a number of United States Navy bases on the Caroline Islands in the western Pacific Ocean, to the north of New Guinea during World War II. The bases were built to support the island hopping Pacific war efforts of the allied nations fighting the Empire of Japan.
