Ethan Faulkner (born June 11, 1990) is an American basketball coach. He is currently the head coach of the Youngstown State Penguins men's basketball team.

Career

Faulkner attended Elliott County High School and played college basketball at Northern Kentucky before beginning his coaching career. [1] Following stints coaching at Northern Kentucky, Mount Vernon Nazarene, and the University of the Cumberlands, Faulkner joined the Youngstown State coaching staff in 2019 as an assistant coach. [2]

On April 1, 2024, Faulkner was named the next head coach at Youngstown State, replacing Jerrod Calhoun. [3]

The Beeghly Physical Education Center, or simply Beeghly Center, is a 6,300-seat multi-purpose arena in Youngstown, Ohio. The arena, built at a cost of $5.5 million and named for local businessman Leon A. Beeghly, opened on December 2, 1972. It is home to the Youngstown State University Penguins basketball, volleyball, and swimming teams. The first event at the arena was a basketball game against the Ohio University Bobcats, which ended in a 68-59 Youngstown State victory.

He served as the head football coach at Youngstown State University from 1973 to 1974, Southern Illinois University from 1976 to 1983, and Memphis State University—now known as the University of Memphis—from 1984 to 1985, compiling a career college football record of 73–57–3. In their fifth season under head coach Jim Tressel, the team compiled an 11–1 record and lost to UCF in the first round of the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs.

They finished the regular season 23–8, 15–5 in Horizon League play to finish in first place. They defeated Detroit Mercy in the quarterfinal round of the Horizon League tournament, before suffering an upset loss to eventual tournament winners Northern Kentucky in the semifinals. As the regular season leader who didn't win their conference tournament, the Penguins received an auto-bid to play in the 2023 National Invitation Tournament, where they lost to Oklahoma State in the first round.
