Eugene German (born December 2, 1997) is an American professional basketball player for Beijing Ducks of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). He played college basketball for the Northern Illinois Huskies and left as the program's all-time leading scorer and a conference champion.
German grew up in crime-ridden Gary, Indiana and played basketball from an early age under his father's guidance. At age 10, he was noticed by an Amateur Athletic Union coach at a church camp tournament and began playing around the state and country. [1] German started high school at Andrean High School in Merrillville, Indiana but moved to Theodore Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana before playing a basketball game for Andrean. He did not play for Roosevelt either due to a left hip fracture. [2]
For his sophomore season, German transferred to 21st Century Charter School in Gary, averaging 17.4 points per game. [3] As a junior, he averaged a state-high 32 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals per game and was named to the Small School All-State team. [4] [5] After the season, he committed to play college basketball for Northern Illinois. [6] As a senior, German averaged 33.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and four assists per game, helping 21st Century win a regional title. He had nine 40-point games and scored 51 points in a loss to national powerhouse La Lumiere School. [7] He led the state of Indiana in scoring for a second straight year, becoming the first player to do so since Deshaun Thomas in 2009 and 2010. [8] German earned Post-Tribune Player of the Year and Small School All-State honors. [3] German finished his high school career as 21st Century's all-time leading scorer with 2,020 points. [9]
On February 18, 2017, German scored a freshman season-high 27 points in an 88–80 overtime loss to Toledo. [10] As a freshman, he averaged nine points per game and was named to the Mid-American Conference (MAC) All-Freshman Team. [3] German gained about 15 pounds after his freshman season and had breakout success as a sophomore. [11] On February 17, 2018, he scored a season-high 31 points in a 75–67 win over Western Michigan. [12] In his sophomore season, German led the MAC with 20.6 points per game while averaging 3.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists and was named to the second team All-MAC. [3]
On November 28, as a junior, he recorded a career-high 33 points and five rebounds in an 85–83 loss to Green Bay. [13] German averaged 20.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game to earn second-team All-MAC honors. He was also named to the MAC All-Tournament Team after averaging 27 points per game at the 2019 MAC tournament. [3] Against Miami (Ohio) on February 1, 2020, as a senior, German passed T. J. Lux as Northern Illinois' all-time leading scorer and became the first player in program history to score 2,000 career points. [9] In his senior season, he averaged a MAC-leading 20.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game. [3] German was named to the Lou Henson All-America Team by Collegeinsider.com and to the first team All-MAC. He finished his career at Northern Illinois with 2,203 points, which ranked fifth in MAC history. [14]
On August 9, 2021, German signed with Greek club Ionikos Nikaias. [15] He averaged 20 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.
On February 10, 2022, German signed with Merkezefendi Belediyesi Denizli Basket of the Basketbol Süper Ligi. [16]
On May 25, 2022, German signed with Qingdao Eagles of the Chinese Basketball Association. [17]
On April 4, 2024, he signed with Yukatel Merkezefendi of the Basketbol Süper Ligi (BSL) for a second stint. [18] [19]

German's father, David German Sr., played basketball for Horace Mann School in the 1980s. [9] His mother, Eugenia, ran track for Mann. German's sister, Princess, played college basketball for Milwaukee and Indianapolis. His brother, David Jr., played basketball for 21st Century Charter School. [8]

The 2009–10 Northern Illinois Huskies men's basketball team represented Northern Illinois University in the college basketball season of 2009–10. The team, led by head coached by Ricardo Patton, are members of the Mid-American Conference and played their homes game at the Convocation Center. They finished the season 10–20, 6–10 in MAC play and lost in the first round of the 2010 MAC men's basketball tournament.
Paul Lamar Dawkins was an American-Turkish professional basketball player, who played for the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association (NBA), appearing in 57 games. He was inducted into the Northern Illinois University Athletics Hall of Fame in 1991. In 2007, he was also inducted into the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame.
Mark Allen Montgomery is an American college basketball head coach for the Detroit Mercy Titans. He previously was the head men's basketball coach at Northern Illinois University. Montgomery replaced Ricardo Patton as head coach of the Huskies on March 24, 2011. Prior to being named the head coach at NIU, he was an assistant to head coach Tom Izzo at Michigan State for 10 seasons, the last four as associate head coach. The Spartans reached the NCAA tournament in each of Montgomery's 10 seasons on the staff, including three Final Four appearances and a trip to the title game in 2009.
Chandler Harnish is a former American football quarterback. He was the final pick of the 2012 NFL draft, selected 253rd overall by the Indianapolis Colts, becoming Mr. Irrelevant 2012. He played college football for Northern Illinois University, where he was the Huskies' starting quarterback for four years. Harnish was also a member of the Minnesota Vikings and Arizona Cardinals.
Donell "D. J." Cooper Jr. is an American professional basketball player. After a successful four years of college basketball at Ohio University, Cooper entered the 2013 NBA draft but was not selected in the draft's two rounds. As a player at Ohio University, Cooper cracked the top 25 all-time Division I assists leaders list early in his final season and steadily rose up on the record as the season has progressed. He was named the preseason Mid-American Conference Player of the Year by the league's media, a prediction which proved correct when he was named Player of the Year after the regular season. In 2021-22, he led the Israeli Basketball Premier League in both assists per game and steals per game.
Brian Craig "C. J." Wilcox is an American professional basketball player who last played for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants of the NBA G League. The 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) shooting guard played high school basketball at Pleasant Grove High School before going on to complete four years at the University of Washington. He was selected by the Los Angeles Clippers with the 28th overall pick in the 2014 NBA draft.

Michele Christopher Di Nunno is an American-Italian former basketball player, playing the point guard position. Born in Maywood, Illinois, he played high school basketball at Lake Park and Von Steuben. Initially, he committed to Northern Illinois to play college basketball, where he received MAC All-Freshman team honors. After two seasons, he transferred to Eastern Kentucky. DiNunno was named in the OVC All-Newcomer team in his junior season and first team all-OVC in his senior season at Eastern Kentucky. Following his graduation, he has played professionally in several leagues in Europe. In 2019 he won the Icelandic championship as a member of KR.
Christyn Williams is an American women's basketball player who is a free agent. She was drafted by the Washington Mystics. She played college basketball at the University of Connecticut (UConn). She played in high school for Central Arkansas Christian School in North Little Rock, Arkansas. A five-star recruit and one of the most decorated high school basketball players in history, Williams rose to national acclaim after winning the 2018 WBCA National Player of the Year award, the 2018 Naismith National Player of the Year award the 2018 Gatorade National Player of the Year award, and the 2018 USA Today Player of the Year award. Williams also was named a McDonald's All-American, where she was named the game's MVP after scoring 22 points and leading the West team to an 82-79 victory. Williams was awarded the Morgan Wootten Award, which is given each year to "the McDonald's All American who best exhibits outstanding character, leadership and the values of a student-athlete in the classroom and the community". Williams was also named to the 2018 Jordan Brand Classic team.
