Everett Woods

Everett Dedman Woods was an architect based in Memphis, Tennessee. He was the younger brother of fellow architect Neander Woods Jr. The Coca-Cola bottling plant he designed in Covington, Tennessee is listed on the National Register of Historic Places [1] and a residence he built in Memphis became corporate headquarters for Harrah's Entertainment. He also designed East High School in Memphis.

He worked with George Mahan Jr. designing residences for many prominent citizens [2] before establishing his own firm in 1930. [3]

One of his designs, Poplar Plaza, was the first shopping center in Memphis and, according to a planning official in Memphis, the first shopping center in the United States designed for the automobile. John B. Goodwin was the developer. [4] East High School was the largest and finest school in Memphis history when it was built and was the city's first integrated high school. [5]

The Lee County Courthouse features two courthouse buildings constructed at 15 East Chestnut Street in Marianna, Arkansas, United States, the county seat of Lee County. The original courthouse was a wooden at the corner of Poplar and Mississippi streets built in 1873 when Marianna became the county seat of Lee County. A larger courthouse was built in 1890 and it was expanded with another new courthouse building added next to it in 1936. The courthouse compound was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995. The newer courthouse was designed by Memphis, Tennessee based architect George Mahan Jr. with Everett Woods and built in the Colonial Revival and Art Deco styles.

Neander Montgomery Woods Jr. was an architect in Memphis, Tennessee and in the northeastern United States including New York City, New Jersey, and Connecticut. His most well known building is the Exchange Building in Memphis. His work is noted along with a few other architects on a historical marker in the Central Gardens Historic District. George Mahan Jr. apprenticed with him as did Everett Woods, his younger brother who also became an architect.
