Eyleifur Hafsteinsson (born 31 May 1947) is an Icelandic former footballer who played as a forward. He won the Icelandic championship in 1968, 1970 and 1974 and the Icelandic Cup in 1966. [1] He was part of the Iceland national team between 1964 and 1972, playing 26 matches and scoring 4 goals. [2]
After coming up through the junior teams of Íþróttabandalag Akraness (ÍA), he debuted with the senior team in 1964. [3] [4] He became an instant hit, becoming the youngest player ever to score in the Icelandic top-tier league when he did so three days before his 17th birthday. He finished the 1964 season as the league's top goal scorer with 10 goals. [1] The following year he spent three months in Glasgow, Scotland, where he trained with the Glasgow Rangers. [5] He returned to ÍA before the start of the 1965 season where he scored 7 goals. [6] In 1966, he moved to Reykjavík and joined Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur where he played until 1969. [7] [8] In 1970, he returned to ÍA where he finished his career in 1975, at the age of 27. [9]

The Icelandic Coast Guard is the Icelandic defence service responsible for search and rescue, maritime safety and security surveillance, national defense, and law enforcement. The Coast Guard maintains the Iceland Air Defence System which conducts ground-based surveillance of Iceland's air space and operate the Keflavik airbase. It is also responsible for hydrographic surveying and nautical charting.
Ásatrúarfélagið, also known simply as Ásatrú, is an Icelandic religious organisation of heathenry. It was founded on the first day of summer in CE.1972, and granted recognition as a registered religious organization in 1973, allowing it to conduct legally binding ceremonies and collect a share of the church tax. The Allsherjargoði is the chief religious official.
Hermann Gunnarsson commonly referred to by his nickname, Hemmi Gunn, was an Icelandic television and radio personality, performer and former football and handball player at an international level. Hermann is known as one of Iceland's greats both in football and handball. He also played basketball at club level, but never played a national game in that sport.
Pétur Karl Guðmundsson is an Icelandic former professional basketball player and coach. Standing 2.18 m (7'2"), weighing 118 kg (260 lb) and playing the center position, Pétur was the first Icelander and one of the first European players ever to play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Often described as the greatest Icelandic basketball player of all time, he was named the Icelandic Basketball Player of the 20th century by the Icelandic Basketball Association in 2001 and in 2015, he was inducted in to the National Olympic and Sports Association of Iceland Hall of Fame. Pétur was also a member of the Icelandic national basketball team from 1978 to 1992 but missed several years of competition due to FIBA rules banning professional players from playing for national teams.

It includes covers of Tom Waits' "I Hope That I Don't Fall in Love with You" and The Velvet Underground's "Stephanie Says". It was the highest selling album in Iceland in 1996. It was co-produced and co-written by Jón Ólafsson. The song "The Boy Who Giggled So Sweet" was nominated as the song of the year at the Icelandic Music Awards.
Ólafur Þór Gunnarsson is an Icelandic former footballer. He played the majority of his career in Iceland and capped for the Icelandic national team against Brazil in 2002. He played football for Flagler College in the United States, where he was a three-time NAIA All-American, All-Region XIV and All-Florida Sun Conference selection. In 2016, he was inducted into the schools hall of fame.
Pavel Ermolinskij is an Icelandic basketball coach and former player of Russian descent, a member of the Icelandic national team. He played in the Spanish Liga ACB for several seasons, winning the Spanish King's Cup in 2005. As a player, won the Icelandic championship eight times, seven times with KR, in 2011 and 2014 to 2019, and in 2022 with Valur. In 2023, he guided Tindastóll to their first Icelandic championship in his first year as a head coach.
Körfuknattleiksfélag ÍA, commonly known as ÍA, is a basketball team based in Akranes, Iceland. It is a subdivision of the sport club Íþróttabandalag Akraness. Its men's team played in the top-tier Úrvalsdeild karla from 1993 to 2000, making the playoffs in 1994, 1997 and 1998. Its women's team played one season in the top-tier Úrvalsdeild kvenna during the 1995–1996 season.
Ívar DeCarsta Unsont Webster is an American and Icelandic former professional basketball player and coach. Following a college career at Miami Dade and Indiana State, he went on to play for 20 seasons in Iceland where he won the national championship in 1988. In 1984, he became the first naturalized citizen to play for Iceland national basketball team.
Helgi Jóhannsson was an Icelandic basketball coach and player. He was one of the main pioneers of modern basketball in Iceland and was a founding member of Íþróttafélag Reykjavíkur's basketball department. As a coach, Helgi won a record 8 men's national championships from 1954 to 1964. He played with ÍR in the 1964–65 FIBA European Champions Cup, the first time an Icelandic team competed in a continental competition. He was the head coach of the Icelandic men's national basketball team on three occasions, from 1961–1967, in 1970 and in 1978.
Halldóra Vanda Sigurgeirsdóttir is an Icelandic former multi-sport athlete who played both for the Icelandic national football team and the Icelandic national basketball team. In 2001 she became the first woman in Iceland to coach a men's football team when she was hired as the manager of Neisti Hofsósi. In 2020, she was awarded the Order of the Falcon for her work towards women's football. In 2021, she became the first female chairman of the Football Association of Iceland.
Ísak Snær Þorvaldsson is an Icelandic professional footballer who plays for Besta deild karla club Breiðablik, on loan from Rosenborg, as a left winger and forward.
Davíð Janis was an Icelandic and Indonesian basketball player. He became one of the first foreign basketball players to play in Iceland when he joined KR in 1970.
Kári Marísson is an Icelandic former multi-sport athlete and basketball coach. He played and coached basketball for several decades and was the oldest player to have played in the Icelandic top-tier Úrvalsdeild karla, at the age of 49 years, until the record was broken by Baldur Þorleifsson in 2015.
Karl Eðvarð Þórðarson is an Icelandic former footballer who played as a midfielder, most notably for ÍA. Besides Iceland, he has played in Belgium and France. During his career, he won the Icelandic Championship five times and the Icelandic Cup twice with ÍA.
Halldór Laxness Halldórsson, better known as Dóri DNA, is an Icelandic actor, author, comedian, rapper and television personality. He has hosted the TV-shows Skítamix on Stöð 2 and Veislan on RÚV. In 2020, he started appearing as Colonel Sanders in advertisements for KFC in Iceland. In May 2022, he released the single Því þú átt það skilið, along with Þormóður Eiríksson and Króli, and appeared as Sanders in the music video.

It has been a part of the Icelandic whaling fleet operated and owned by the company Hvalur hf. since 1961. It was bought, along with its sister ship Hvalur 7, to replace the aging Hvalur 2 and Hvalur 3 which were built between 1920 and 1930.

It has been a part of the Icelandic whaling fleet operated and owned by the company Hvalur hf. since 1961. It was bought, along with its sister ship Hvalur 6, to replace the aging Hvalur 2 and Hvalur 3 which were built between 1920 and 1930. In 1965, the ship participated in the first Icelandic scientific expedition to tag whales.
Laufey Sigurðardóttir is an Icelandic former multi-sport athlete who was a member of the Iceland national teams in badminton, football and handball. A prominent goalscorer in football, she led the Icelandic top-tier league in goals scored in 1983 and 1991.
