Fahda Romie (born Jerome Downes, 9 August 1993) is a Jamaican rapper and songwriter, known for his 2020 EP ExtraGalactic Quasar which led to him being named as one of Jamaican's top YouTube artists of 2021. [1]

Early life

Fahda Romie was born Jerome Downes on 9 August 1993, and grew up in May Pen, Clarendon, Jamaica. [2] He was raised by his grandparents from the age of 4 when his father relocated to the United Kingdom while his mother lived in the Cayman Islands. [3] He attended May Pen Primary School and Knox High School in Spalding Clarendon, Denbigh High School in May Pen Clarendon, Denbigh High School 6th Form and College HEART College of Hospitality Services. Career

In 2017, Romie moved to Dubai to work in a restaurant. [4] In November 2018, he started working as personal chef to Dubai-based Nigerian influencer and fraudster Hushpuppi. [3]

Romie released his debut EP ExtraGalactic Quasar on December 31, 2020. [5] On May 25 2020, he was named as a Spotify RADAR artiste alongside singers Shenseea and Kranium. [6] [7] In 2021 Romie was named as one of the "hottest Jamaican rappers" and dancehall singers by the Nigerian Tribune [8] newspaper and among five breakout Jamaican artists to watch in 2021 by The Guardian (Nigeria). [9] On December 30, 2023, Fahda Romie opened for Sean Paul at the 2023 Coca-Cola Arena festival [10]

On May 11 2024, Fahda Romie opened performance for Shaggy at the Coca-Cola arena and in November 2024, he opened performance for Beenie Man at the Dubai's first carnival music festival "Butterfly Carnival" with Ruger [11]

Afrobeats, not to be confused with Afrobeat or Afroswing, is an umbrella term to describe popular music from West Africa and the diaspora that initially developed in Nigeria, Ghana, and the UK in the 2000s and 2010s. Afrobeats is less of a style per se, and more of a descriptor for the fusion of sounds flowing out of Nigeria and Ghana. Genres such as hiplife, jùjú music, highlife, azonto music, and naija beats, among others, were amalgamated under the "Afrobeats" umbrella.

Dancehall pop is a sub-genre of the Jamaican genre dancehall that originated in the early 2000s. Developing from the sounds of reggae, dancehall pop is characteristically different in its fusion with western pop music and digital music production. Dancehall pop is also different from dancehall in that most songs use lesser Jamaican Patois in lyrics––allowing it to be globally understood and consumed. "Light My Fire" is a song recorded by Jamaican singer Sean Paul featuring guest vocals from American singer Gwen Stefani and Jamaican dancehall artist Shenseea. He wrote "Light My Fire" with Shenseea, Saul Alexander "AC" Castillo Vasquez, Gamal Kosh Lewis, Allan Peter Grigg, Rosina Russell, and Emily Warren. It was produced by Grigg, AC, and Paul's brother Jason Jigzag Henriques. In interviews, Paul revealed the collaboration was a result of his admiration of both Stefani and Shenseea.
