Fairland High School

The Fairland Local School District was formed in 1949 as a consolidation of Proctorville and Rome Rural schools. It serves the village of Proctorville, Rome Township, parts of Union and Windsor Township in Lawrence County, as well as parts of Crown City and Guyan Township in Gallia County, all in Ohio. It consists of four schools; Fairland East Elementary (PreK-2), Fairland West Elementary (3-5), Fairland Middle (6-8), and Fairland High School (9-12). The Fairland Dragon is its mascot.

Ohio University Southern Campus is a regional campus of Ohio University located in Ironton, Ohio. While not as large as the main Ohio University campus located in Athens, Ohio, several degree programs are offered. The Southern Campus also features an extension located in Proctorville, Ohio, and the Ohio Horse Park located in Franklin Furnace, Ohio just off U.S. 52. State Route 7 (SR 7), formerly known as Inter-county Highway 7 until 1921 and State Highway 7 in 1922, is a north–south state highway in the southern and eastern portions of the U.S. state of Ohio. At about 336 miles (541 km) in length, it is the longest state route in Ohio. Its southern terminus is an interchange with U.S. Route 52 (US 52) just west of Chesapeake. Its northern terminus also serves as the eastern terminus of SR 531 in Conneaut. The path of SR 7 stays within five miles (8.0 km) of the Ohio River for the southern portion, with the river being visible from much of the route.
