Parentline Plus was the result of the merger of three charities: Parentline UK, National Stepfamily Association (NSA) and Parent Network. On 7 September 1999 NSA and Parentline UK held AGMs and agreed formally to merge as FamilyLives. [1] Those AGMs were immediately followed by FamilyLives’ first Board meeting. Parent Network’s merger into the combined charity took place on 31 March 2000. Dorit Braun had led the mergers and became Chief Executive of Parentline Plus (previously appointed Chief Executive of NSA in 1997). She was awarded the OBE in June 2000 and took early retirement April 2008.
Parentline Plus works to offer help and support through a range of services. These include a national helpline [2] and three websites, Parentline Plus, Parentline Plus Professional and Got A Teenager. The services offered are confidential and free, and the charity claims to take a non-judgmental approach to parenting. [3]

Parentline Plus has eight regional offices, based in Essex, Gloucestershire, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, North East, Nottinghamshire, North London and South London. In Scotland, the same Parentline helpline number is operated by Children 1st which is a separate organisation.
Over half of the calls received by Parentline Plus are from parents of teenagers. [4] GotATeenager.org.uk is targeted at parents of teenagers. [5] The term "teenglish" was used by the project leader Nikola Mann to describe the language used by teenagers but not understood by their parents.[ citation needed ]

It merged with Bowel Cancer UK in 2018 to create a new charity also called Bowel Cancer UK. Beating Bowel Cancer provided support and information for bowel cancer patients and their families through the UK's only nurse-led specialist helpline for bowel cancer, their online forum and booklets and fact sheets. The charity also worked tirelessly to raise public awareness of bowel cancer and campaign to ensure Governments and health services provide the highest quality care and treatments.

GroceryAid is a registered (1095897) benevolent society for people from all over the United Kingdom who have worked, or are working in the grocery industry, and who find they need extra support to get by. Founded in 1857 the National Grocers Benevolent Fund has been trading under the GroceryAid name since October 2012. The charity over the years has combined with numerous charities, including the London Grocers & Tea Dealers Federation, the Grocers Federation Benevolent Fund and the Grocers Employees National Benevolent Fund. More recently the charity merged with The Confectioners Benevolent Fund in 2012. At this time, the charity ceased to trade under the Caravan name and from autumn 2012 became known as GroceryAid. There are seven regional Branches which help to raise funds for the charity across the UK. There are also two Network Awareness Groups in which industry colleagues focus on raising awareness of the charity.
