Faustin Ntezilyayo (born 20 August 1962) is chief justice/president of the Supreme Court of Rwanda and president of the High Council of the Judiciary from 6 December 2019, replacing Sam Rugege who ended his term in December 2019. [1]
Ntezilyayo was born on 20 August 1962 in the present-day Kamonyi District. He holds a Ph.D. in law from the University of Antwerp (Belgium), a Master of Laws (LLM) in fiscal law from Free University of Brussels (Belgium), a Master of Arts in international affairs (international trade policy), from Carleton University (Canada); and a Bachelor of Laws from the National University of Rwanda.
Ntezilyayo started his career as a lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the National University of Rwanda in 1986. He has been a visiting scholar at Duke University School of Law (USA), 1999 (US); a visiting lecturer at the University of Ottawa (Canada), (2007–2008); and a consultant with the World Bank; the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF) and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR). Ntezilyayo served in various positions in the government of Rwanda. He was Minister of Justice [2] from October 1996 to January 1999; vice governor of the National Bank of Rwanda (2000–2003); managing director of the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Agency (2003–2005); and senior legal advisor in the Ministry of Commerce and Trade (1996). He is also familiar with the private sector, having been the managing director of a microfinance bank (i.e. AGASEKE BANK), (2011–2013) and an arbitration practitioner. Ntezilyayo was a Judge of the East African Court of Justice from April 2013 to March 2020. He was sworn in as Chief Justice of Rwanda on 6 December 2019.

Stephen Myron Schwebel, is an American jurist and international judge, counsel and arbitrator. He previously served as judge of the World Bank Administrative Tribunal (2010–2017), as a member of the U.S. National Group at the Permanent Court of Arbitration, as president of the International Monetary Fund Administrative Tribunal (1993–2010), as president of the International Court of Justice (1997–2000), as vice president of the International Court of Justice (1994–1997), and as Judge of the International Court of Justice (1981–2000). Prior to his tenure on the ICJ, Schwebel served as deputy legal adviser to the U.S. Department of State (1974–1981) and as assistant legal adviser to the U.S. Department of State (1961–1967). He also served as a professor of law at Harvard Law School (1959–1961) and Johns Hopkins University (1967–1981). Makhdoom Ali Khan, is a practising Senior Advocate Supreme Court. Makhdoom Ali Khan is a former Attorney General of Pakistan, former chairman Pakistan Bar Council, former member of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan, former board member of the Federal Judicial Academy of Pakistan and a former board member of the Sindh Judicial Academy. He has consistently been ranked amongst the top three litigators in Pakistan over the last three decades both by reputation and in international rankings in legal publications and amongst the top two litigators in the Sindh High Court in Karachi. Since his return to private practice in 2007 he is globally regarded as the preeminent commercial, taxation and constitutional litigator, arbitrator and arbitration lawyer in Pakistan.
Hassan Bubacar Jallow is a Gambian judge who has served as Chief Justice of the Gambia since February 2017. He was the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) from 2003 to 2016, and Prosecutor of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (IRMCT) from 2012 to 2016, both at the rank of United Nations Under Secretary-General. Prince James Ajibola Idowu Ige, SAN, KBE, CFR simply known as “Bola Ige”(22 March 1934 – 9 April 2023) was a Nigerian jurist, who was the attorney general and the minister of justice of Nigeria from 1985 to 1991 and a judge of the International Court of Justice from 1991 to 1994. He was president of the Nigerian Bar Association from 1984 to 1985. He was also one of five commissioners on the Eritrea-Ethiopia Boundary Commission, organized through the Permanent Court of Arbitration. In 1979, he founded The Nigeria Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (NICArb) as the premier arbitration institute in Nigeria and it was duly incorporated in 1988 under the Companies Act as a legal entity Limited by Guarantee.
