The Fazal Mahmood Award is an individual cricket award presented annually to the leading wicket-taker in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). [1] It is named after Pakistani fast bowler Fazal Mahmood. The winner is honored with a trophy and the distinctive Maroon Cap, which is worn by the player currently leading the wickets tally throughout the duration of the tournament. [2]
In February 2017, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that the individual awards for the PSL would be named after icons of the game to preserve the heritage of Pakistan cricket. The bowling award was dedicated to Fazal Mahmood, whose 12-wicket haul at The Oval in 1954 remains one of the greatest performances in cricket history. [3]
The cap is passed from player to player as the tournament progresses and the lead changes. The final recipient is determined after the final match of the season.
Shaheen Afridi holds the record for the most Fazal Mahmood Awards, having won it three times (2020, 2022, and 2025). In 2019, Hasan Ali set a record for the most wickets in a single edition with 25 scalps.
