Kashmir former princely state, now a conflict territory between India and Pakistan

Kashmir is the northernmost geographical region of the Indian subcontinent. Until the mid-19th century, the term "Kashmir" denoted only the Kashmir Valley between the Great Himalayas and the Pir Panjal Range. Today, it denotes a larger area that includes the Indian-administered territory of Jammu and Kashmir, the Pakistani-administered territories of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, and Chinese-administered territories of Aksai Chin and the Trans-Karakoram Tract.

All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), or Tehreek e Hurriyat, is an alliance of 26 political, social and religious organizations formed on 9 March 1993, as a united political front to raise the cause of Kashmiri separatism in the Kashmir conflict. The alliance has historically been viewed positively by Pakistan as it contests the claim of the Indian government over the State of Jammu and Kashmir. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq is its chairman and Ghulam Muhammad Safi was elected as its convener in Pakistan on January 2010.

On December 4, 2009, he survived an assassination attempt. [2] [3]

Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Insurgent group based in India and Pakistan

The Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) is a political organisation active in both Pakistan-administered and Indian-administered Kashmir. It was founded by Amanullah Khan, with Maqbool Bhat also credited as a co-founder. Originally a militant wing of the Plebiscite Front, it changed its name to JKLF in Birmingham, England on 29 May 1977. From then until 1994 it was an active militant organisation. Makhdoom Shah Mahmood Hussain Qureshi is a Pakistani politician who is the current Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs, in office since 20 August 2018. He has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan since August 2018 and currently serves as Vice Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, in office since December 2011.

Mohammad Abbas Ansari is a prominent political leader and Shia cleric from Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. He is a Kashmiri separatist, ex-chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, and founder of the Jammu & Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen (JKIM) political party. He is considered a moderate and has called for an end to violence in that region.

There are separatist movements in Pakistan which are based on ethnic and regional nationalism, including independence movements in Balawaristan, Sindh, and Balochistan. The government of Pakistan has attempted to crush these separatist movements.

Jammu Kashmir Democratic Liberation Party is a separatist political party in Jammu Kashmir founded by its chairman, Hashim Qureshi in 1994.

Abdul Haq al-Turkistani is a Uyghur Islamic militant who leads the Turkistan Islamic Party. The United States Treasury reported he took over leadership of the organization in 2003, following the death of its previous leader, and took a seat on al Qaeda's shura, its central committee, in 2005.

Shabir Ahmad Shah, popularly known as Shabir Shah,, in Shahabad dooru, Kadipora, Anantnag, Kashmir is the founder and president of the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP), one of the main separatist political organizations seeking "right of self-determination" to Jammu and Kashmir. Having spent 31 years of his life in jails, he is known as the “Jail Bird”, “Nelson Mandela of Kashmir” and recognised by Amnesty International as “The Prisoner of Conscience.”

On 30 January 1971, an Indian Airlines passenger airliner named Ganga, flying from Srinagar to Jammu, was hijacked by two Kashmiri separatists belonging to the National Liberation Front. The hijackers were Hashim Qureshi and his cousin Ashraf Qureshi. The aircraft was flown to Lahore, Pakistan where the passengers and the crew were released and the aircraft was burnt down.

Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi and Jean-Julien Rojer were the defending champions, but chose not to participate together. Qureshi played alongside Rohan Bopanna, but lost in the second round to Juan Sebastián Cabal and Robert Farah. Rojer teamed up with Horia Tecău, but lost in the first round to Julien Benneteau and Édouard Roger-Vasselin.

Quimoh city in Jammu & Kashmir, India

Quimoh is a town situated between two districts, Kulgam district and Anantnag district, towards North of Dachnipora located in Jammu and Kashmir state of India. The distance between Kulgam and Quimoh is 11 KM where its headquarters are located. It is bounded by Devsar towards west, Anantnag city towards East, Qazigund town towards South, and Kulgam city towards west.

Kausar Nag lake in India

Kausar Nag or Kausarnag, is a high-altitude oligotrophic lake located in the Pir Panjal Range in the Kulgam District's Noorabad of Kashmir.The lake is roughly 2 miles long and half a mile at the widest point. The trek to Kausarnag is via the famous waterfall of Aharbal. The lake is located in a valley that is surrounded by peaks on all sides with elevation in excess of 4000 metres above sea level.

Rambi Ara

Rambi Ara is a river and major tributary to the River Jhelum located in Shopian District in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It joins the Veshaw River near Sangam in Anantnag District before the confluence finally meets the Jhelum. The Rambi Ara originates in the Pir Panjal Range and has two major tributaries. The Rambi Ara is known for fluctuating water levels and is often affected by flash floods.

The Jammu & Kashmir People's Conference is a state political party in Jammu and Kashmir, India, founded by the separatist leader Abdul Ghani Lone and Molvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari in 1978. It is currently led by Sajjad Lone. It won two seats in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in the 2014 elections.

Pandit Mangat Ram Sharma was an Indian politician and Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir as well as speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.. He was a leader of the Indian National Congress.

2016–17 Kashmir unrest

The 2016–17 unrest in Kashmir, also known as the Burhan aftermath, refers to a series of violent protests in the Kashmir Valley of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It started with the killing of Burhan Wani, a commander of the Kashmir-based Islamic militant organisation Hizbul Mujahideen, by Indian security forces on 8 July 2016. After his killing, anti-Indian protests started in all 10 districts of the Kashmir Valley. Protesters defied curfew with attacks on security forces and public properties.

Kashmir Life Line (KLL) is a first emergency medical service started by Borderless World Foundation and Health Department of Kashmir in 2015. This is a first critical care, trauma care ambulance service started by a non profit after 2014 India–Pakistan floods with the help of National Securities Depository Limited under the corporate social responsibility. KLL is a 100% charitable and free medical service.

Ved Bhasin was a student leader, political activist and prominent journalist from Jammu. He served more than six decades in his profession of active journalism. He was the founder and editor of the Jammu and Kashmir daily Kashmir Times. He was popularly called as the 'Grand Old Man' of English journalism in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

Stone pelting in Kashmir

Stone pelting in Kashmir refers to a criminal assault in the form of stone throwing by Kashmiri youth who pelt, bombard or throw stones on the Indian security forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police deployed for crowd control in Jammu and Kashmir. In the local language, it is termed as "Kanni Jung", which means fighting with stones and the stone pelters are called as Sangbaaz.
