The medals were presented by Octavian Morariu, IOC member, Romania and Ana Derșidan-Ene-Pascu, Vice President of the FIE.

South Korea's Park Sang-young won the individual gold, the first victory for South Korea in the event after bronze medals in 2000 and 2012. Géza Imre took silver, Hungary's first medal in the event since 1996. Imre, at age 41, was the oldest individual fencing medalist since 1952. Gauthier Grumier of France earned bronze.

Katharine (Kat) Holmes is an American fencer. She competed in the women's épée event at the 2016 and 2020 Summer Olympics. She was a world champion in the women’s epee team event, which was the first World Championship medal won by an American women’s epee team, defeating Korea in overtime in the finals. She also anchored the United States women’s epee team to its first World Cup gold medal, defeating Russia in overtime in the finals.
