Fenia Chang

Fenia Chang is a Taiwanese [1] pianist who has played at various venues in North America, Europe and Asia, with her first national recital at age 11 broadcast on television in Taiwan. She has also been on the faculty of several schools of music including Texas A & M. [1] She maintains her own website, [2] and appears in concerts regularly such as at the Dame Myra Hess concerts given in Chicago weekly and inspired by those given by Dame Myra Hess in London during World War II.

Early life

Dr. Fenia began piano study at the age of 9 and made her solo debut at the age of 11, after winning the first Japan Kawai Piano Competition.

Fenia studied at the Julliard School and the University of Maryland and earned her doctorate as a professor of Piano. She has been certified as a piano teacher by the Teachers National Association since 2005. She has worked in many colleges including Austin College, Dallas College Mountain view, Collin College, and Southern Methodist College. Fenia Chang has encompassing roles as a collaborative pianist, chamber musician, and adjudicator in Dallas Fort Worth. Her teaching is further supported by the success of her students in both national and international competitions. In recent years, she has played on stage with orchestras such as the Sherman Symphony Orchestra, Allen Philharmonic Orchestra, New Texas Sinfonia, and the Dallas Chamber Symphony.

Fenia is a sought-after adjudicator, and frequent presenter at music shops in the DFW area. Additionally, she is a regular adjudicator at numerous well-known piano competitions, with jobs for example at the TMTA Regional Solo Performance Contest in 2022.

Fenia holds masters and bachelors degrees from the Juilliard School , and a Doctorate from the University of Maryland, her mentors include but are not limited to Abbey Simon, Jerome Lowenthal ,Russell Sherman John Perry, Thomas Schumacher, and Santiago Rodriguez. [2]

Robert Scholz was an Austrian-born American pianist, conductor, composer and teacher. He achieved fame as a pianist, especially in Austria during the Twenties and Thirties in a piano duo with his brother Heinz Scholz with whom he also published the first authoritative collection of Mozart’s works for piano. After emigrating to the United States in 1938 he became a well-known conductor and founder of the American Chamber Orchestra in New York. In 1963 the US State Department invited him to teach in Taiwan as part of a scholarly exchange program. Here he achieved lasting fame as a conductor and especially as the founding father of Taiwan's piano tradition. Most influential piano professors in Taiwan today can trace their roots back to his teachings. He died in Taipei in 1986.
