Filippo Anfossi

Filippo Anfossi (died 14 May 1825) was a vicar-general of the Dominicans and Master of the Sacred Palace.

Biography

Anfossi was born in Taggia, Province of Imperia.

He carried on the negotiations with Lamennais regarding the corrections to be made in his "Essai sur l'indifférence" (Paris, 1821–23). He was one of the ultramontanist opponents of the various strands of Gallicanism represented by Scipione de Ricci, Vincento Palmieri, and Guillaume de la Luzerne.

He died in Rome in 1825.

The 1264–65 papal election was convened after the death of Pope Urban IV and ended by electing his successor Pope Clement IV. It met in Perugia, where Urban IV had taken refuge after being driven out of Orvieto. He had never been in Rome as Pope, but spent his entire reign in exile. It was the second election in a row where a pope was elected in absentia; the phenomenon would be repeated in the Conclave of 1268–1271, and again in the Conclave of 1292–1294. Il curioso indiscreto, is an opera in three acts composed by Pasquale Anfossi. The libretto is based on an episode from the 17th-century Spanish novel Don Quixote. The librettist is not known for sure but is thought to be either Giovanni Bertati or Giuseppe Petrosellini. The opera premiered at the Teatro delle Dame in Rome during the Carnival season of 1777.
