The Victorian PGA Championship is a golf tournament played in Victoria, Australia. It has been part of the PGA Tour of Australasia each season since 2009. It is the oldest of the state professional championships, having been first held in 1922.
The Sun-Herald Tournament was a golf tournament held in Australia from 1924 to 1926. It was the first Australian tournament with significant prize money and was run along the lines of the British News of the World Match Play. The first event in 1924 was sponsored by The Sun newspaper in Sydney and was called the Sun Tournament. In 1925 and 1926 the events were co-sponsored by The Herald newspaper in Melbourne. The 1925 event was held in Melbourne and was called the Herald-Sun tournament while 1926 the event returned to Sydney and was called the Sun-Herald Tournament. The 1926 event was combined with the Australian Professional Championship.
Marie Alice Bremner was an Australian soprano, remembered for performances in Gilbert and Sullivan operas. She became a favorite performer in musical comedy, first on stage, then revivals and variety shows on broadcast radio. She was popular with producers for her ability to take on key roles at a moment's notice and draw "rave" reviews. Her accompanist husband Ewart Chapple became a senior executive with the Australian Broadcasting Commission.
Ru Pullan (1916–1993) was an Australian writer of radio, television, novels, short stories and theatre. He was one of the leading radio writers in Australia in the 1940s and 1950s. Writing as Luke Hardin, Cass Durand and Lew Rand, he published 50 novels in the western genre between 1962 and 1970. He also wrote romance novels using the pseudonyms Paul Easton and Wynne Barrie.
The Harp in the South is a 1951 Australia radio serial adapted by Tony Scott Veitch from the novel of the same name by Ruth Park. It featured many leading actors of the time including Grant Taylor, Dinah Shearing and Reg Goldsworthy.
The Sundowners is a 1953 Australian radio serial based on the novel of the same name by Jon Cleary. It was a 15-minute morning serial for the ABC starting in April 1953 and played as a night-time serial in November of that year.
Chips is a 1952 Australian radio drama series starring Chips Rafferty. It is not to be confused with his earlier series The Sundowner although it too was an outback adventure series.
Reach for the Sky is a 1954 Australian radio serial based on the book of the same name by Paul Brickhill which was a biography of Douglas Bader. It was one of the most acclaimed Australian radio dramas of the 1950s, and a notable success for Rod Taylor who played Bader.
The Enchanted Island was a 1952 Australian radio serial written by Morris West, about a group of eccentrics living on the Isle of Capri. West wrote it after a trip to Europe to gather material.
The Prince of Peace is a 1950 Australian radio serial by Morris West about Jesus Christ. According to The Sun "each of the 39 episodes is self-contained, and the series presents a chronological story of Christ's life from His birth to. His resurrection. Each episode is told by an eye-witness — each a feasible character from one of the various social groups of polyglot Grneco-Roman Judea."
Man of Two Tribes is a 1953 Australia radio serial based on the stories of Arthur Upfield about Detective Inspector Napoleon "Bony" Bonaparte. Morris West adapted several of Upfield's stories.
Shirley Butler is a 1953 Australian radio feature about the unsolved murder of Sydney woman Shirley Butler.
Murder's Not for Middle Aged is a 1953 Australian radio serial by Max Afford featuring his detective hero, Jeffrey Blackburn. It was the last of Afford's Blackburn serials.
