Bookanakere Siddalingappa Yediyurappa, often referred to by his initials BSY, is an Indian politician who served as the 19th Chief Minister of Karnataka and currently serving as the Member of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from Shikaripura constituency. He is also the only politician so far in Karnataka to have served four times as Chief Minister and three times as Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He is an MLA from Shikaripura constituency in Shimoga district, from where he has been elected eight times. He is popularly referred to as Raja Huli by the media.

Jagadish Shivappa Shettar is an Indian politician belonging to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), who served as the 21st Chief Minister of Karnataka from 2012 to 2013. He has subsequently served as Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. Earlier, he was the Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly during 2008–2009. Currently he represents Hubli-Dharwad Central Vidhan Sabha seat. 2008 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election 2008 Legislative Assembly Election in Karnataka

The 2008 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election took place in three phases on 10, 16 and 22 May 2008 in all the 224 assembly constituencies in Karnataka, India. The elections were conducted to elect a Government in the state of Karnataka for the next five years. The votes were counted on 25 May and due to the use of electronic voting machines, all the results were out by the afternoon itself. The Bharatiya Janata Party emerged victorious winning 110 seats. Although the party fell short of a clear majority, it was able to form the government with the support of 6 independents. This was the first time BJP came to power on its own in Karnataka and any south Indian state.

Shivamogga Airport is a greenfield airport to be built at Sogane Village, 8.8 km (5.5 mi) from Shivamogga and 8.2 km (5.1 mi) from Bhadravathi in Karnataka, India. The airport was to be built under Public–private partnership (PPP) with the Government of Karnataka (GoK). However, due to delays in project execution, the contract was terminated in January 2015. On 15 June 2020, Karnataka chief minister B. S. Yediyurappa laid the foundation to start the construction of Shivamogga airport at the cost of The ₹220-crore. The chief minister said the airport, to be constructed in two phases, will be completed in about a year.

The election for the Piriyapatna constituency was postponed to 28 May 2013 due to the death of the BJP candidate for the seat. The voter turnout in the state was 70.23%.

Karnataka Lokayukta is the ombudsman institution of the Indian state of Karnataka. It was established in 1984 to investigate and report on corruption in the Government of Karnataka and to redress public grievances related to state government employees. This Lokayukta that was once considered the most powerful such institution in the country. However, it was stripped off its investigative powers before transferring them to the Anti-Corruption Bureau in 2016.
