FloraNT

FloraNT is a public access web-based database of the Flora of the Northern Territory. It provides authoritative scientific information on some 4300 native taxa, including descriptions, maps, images, conservation status, nomenclatural details together with names used by various aboriginal groups. Alien taxa (over 470 species) [1] are also recorded. [2] Users can access fact sheets on species and some details of the specimens held in the Northern Territory Herbarium, [3] [4] (herbaria codes, NT, DNA) [4] [5] together with keys, and some regional factsheets.

In the distribution guides FloraNT uses the IBRA version 5.1 botanical regions.

The conservation act for NT flora (and fauna) is the Territory Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act 1976 or TWPCA, and it uses the IUCN criteria and categories. [6]

Herbaria

The Northern Territory Department of Environment and Natural Resources is responsible for the Northern Territory Herbarium which has two sites and two index herbariorum codes, [3] DNA, [7] at Palmerston, and NT in Alice Springs. [8]

Australian National Botanic Gardens

The Australian National Botanic Gardens (ANBG) is a heritage-listed botanical garden located in Acton, Canberra, in the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. Established in 1949, the Gardens is administered by the Australian Government's Department of the Environment and Energy. The botanic gardens was added to the Commonwealth Heritage List on 22 June 2004.

Otto Wilhelm Sonder was a German botanist and pharmacist.

The Western Australian Herbarium is the State Herbarium in Perth, Western Australia.

The Blatter Herbarium (BLAT), in St. Xavier's College, Mumbai, is a major Herbarium in India. It is listed in the Index Herbariorum, published by the International Association for Plant Taxonomy and New York Botanical Garden. The Herbarium specializes in the vascular plants of western India; algae, mosses, and fungi of Mumbai; seed samples of medicinally and economically important plants of Maharashtra, and wood samples of Maharashtra. The institute holds the largest botanical collection in western India.

National Herbarium of Victoria

The National Herbarium of Victoria is one of Australia's earliest herbaria and the oldest scientific institution in Victoria. Its 1.5 million specimens of preserved plants, fungi and algae—collectively known as the State Botanical Collection of Victoria—comprise the largest herbarium collection in Australia and Oceania.

The University and Jepson Herbaria are two separate herbaria at the University of California, Berkeley. These botanical natural history museums are located on the ground floor of the Valley Life Sciences Building on the main campus of the university in Berkeley, California. There are a number of ancillary collections such as the Fruit & Cone Collection, Horticultural Herbarium and Spirit Collection. Holotypes are maintained separately for both Herbaria. The Charterhouse School Herbarium is housed separately within the University Herbarium. The Herbaria have an open house every year on CalDay with a range of activities for children and adults.

State Herbarium of South Australia

The State Herbarium of South Australia is located in Adelaide, South Australia. It is one of several State and Commonwealth herbaria in Australia. The Department for Environment and Water is the state agency which is responsible for the Herbarium, but the Board of the Botanic Gardens and State Herbarium is charged with its establishment and maintenance.

LuEsther T. Mertz Library New York Botanical Garden library

The LuEsther T. Mertz Library is a research library located at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx, New York City. Founded in 1899 and renamed in the 1990s for LuEsther Mertz, it is the United States' largest botanical library, and was the first library whose collection focused exclusively on botany.

The Index Herbariorum provides a global directory of herbaria and their associated staff. This searchable online index allows scientists rapid access to data related to 3,400 locations where a total of 350 million botanical specimens are permanently housed. The Index Herbariorum has its own staff and website. Over time, six editions of the Index were published from 1952 to 1974. The Index became available on-line in 1997.

Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria (FRIN) was established as Federal Department of Forestry Research in 1954. The Institute’s Decree 35 of 1973 and order establishing Research Institute of 1977 changed the status of the Department to an institute being supervised by the Federal Ministry of Environment, but the only Research Institute of the Ministry. For the purpose of developing the nation's education, Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria, have a subsidiary college name Federal College of Forestry located in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria charged with training and developing Forestry and Agricultural practice. The Federal College of Forestry, Ibadan (FEDCOFOR) has six specialized research departments, three support departments. The Federal College Of Forestry, Ibadan is a monotechnic offering both National Diploma (ND) and Higher National Diploma (HND).

National Herbarium of New South Wales

The National Herbarium of New South Wales was established in 1853. The Herbarium has a collection of more than 1.4 million plant specimens, making it the second largest collection of pressed, dried plant specimens in Australia, including scientific and historically significant collections and samples of Australian flora gathered by Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander during the voyage of HMS Endeavour in 1770.

Inez Maria Haring was an American botanist and plant collector, best known for her work in bryology as the Assistant Honorary Curator of Mosses at the New York Botanical Garden beginning in 1945.

Moscow University Herbarium (MW) is the second largest herbarium in Russia after the Komarov Institute (LE).

The Australasian Virtual Herbarium (AVH) is an online resource that allows access to plant specimen data held by various Australian and New Zealand herbaria. It is part of the Atlas of Living Australia (ALA), and was formed by the amalgamation of Australia's Virtual Herbarium and NZ Virtual Herbarium. As of 12 August 2014, more than five million specimens of the 8 million and upwards specimens available from participating institutions have been databased.

Patricia Kern Holmgren American botanist

Patricia Holmgren is an American botanist. Holmgren's main botanical interests are the flora of the U.S. intermountain west and the genera Tiarella and Thlaspi. Holmgren was the director of the herbarium at the New York Botanical Garden from 1981–2000, and editor of Index Herbariorum from 1974–2008.

Herbier National De Guinée National herbarium of the Republic of Guinea

The Herbier National De Guinée is the national herbarium of the Republic of Guinea. Attached to the Gamal Abdel Nasser University of Conakry it was established in 2009 to house a collection of plant specimens found within the country. Its mission is to research and conserve Guinea's botanical heritage and create a network of regional herbaria and botanical gardens and is responsible for contributing to the implementation of the Government's national research policy in the field of plant knowledge. The number of specimens currently housed is 9800 plant and mycological specimens. Since its foundation the HNG has partnered with the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, a relationship which will continue until at least 2021.
