Florida's 19th House district elects one member of the Florida House of Representatives. The district is represented by Sam Greco. [1] This district is located in Northeast Florida, and encompasses part of the First Coast. The district comprises all of Flagler County and the southeastern portion of St. Johns County, including both the cities of St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach. [2]

Contents

This district contains Flagler College, the University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences, and a campus of St. Johns River State College in St. Augustine, as well as a campus of Daytona State College in Palm Coast.

The district was represented by Paul Renner from 2022-2024, during which time he served as Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. [3] From 1992-2000, the district was represented by John Thrasher who served as Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives from 1998-2000. [4]

St. Augustine, Florida, the oldest continuously occupied settlement of European origin in the continental United States, was founded in 1565 by Spanish admiral Pedro Menéndez de Avilés. The Spanish Crown issued an asiento to Menéndez, signed by King Philip II on March 20, 1565, granting him various titles, including that of adelantado of Florida, and expansive privileges to exploit the lands in the vast territory of Spanish Florida, called La Florida by the Spaniards. This contract directed Menéndez to explore the region's Atlantic coast and report on its features, with the object of finding a suitable location to establish a permanent colony from which the Spanish treasure fleet could be defended and Spain's claimed territories in North America protected against incursions by other European powers.

As of the 2010 census, the district's population is 156,188. This district is majority-minority.
