Plot
Li Huai is the illegitimate son of Li Manqing, an influential government official who is also well versed in martial arts. His grandfather, Li Xunhuan, was a highly revered martial artist who rose to fame for his signature dagger-throwing technique, the "Little Li Flying Dagger". Li Huai has never met his father before because he was raised far away from home by his mother, who died when he was still a child. He leads the life of a roaming street urchin with his two best friends, Zhao Chuan and Zhang Zhen.
Li Huai eventually meets his father and his family in town, but their reunion is an unhappy one. Li has never been properly educated since he was a child so he behaves in a rough and uncouth manner. His stepbrother and stepmother, who already despise him for his background, find his behaviour disgraceful to their family. Faced with constant prejudice and bullying from his stepbrother and stepmother, Li has no choice but to flee from home. Before he leaves, his father passes him the manual of the "Little Li Flying Dagger" and tells him to practise the skill on his own. His mother left him with an embroidered purse containing a treasure map before she died. Li finds the treasure and roams the jianghu to help the poor with his wealth and use his newly mastered martial arts to uphold justice.
Throughout his adventures, Li gets entangled in romantic relationships with two maidens. The first, Xue Caiyue, is an enemy of his family because his father killed her father, Xue Qingbi, in a duel several years ago. The second, Fang Keke, is indebted to him and has a crush on him because he changed her life from that of a beggar to a rich girl. At the same time, Li's two childhood friends also play significant roles in shaping his path: Zhao Chuan is kind and compassionate towards him, but he is secretly in love with Fang Keke; Zhang Zhen is scheming and ungrateful, and he exploits Li to achieve his goal of becoming the richest man in town.
Shek Wing-cheung, better known by his stage name Shih Kien, Sek Kin, Sek Gin or Shek Kin, was a Hong Kong actor and martial artist. Shih is best known for playing antagonists and villains in several early Hong Kong wuxia and martial arts films that dated back to the black-and-white period, and is most familiar to Western audiences for his portrayal of the primary villain, Han, in the 1973 martial arts film Enter the Dragon, which starred Bruce Lee.

Three Kingdoms is a 2010 Chinese television series based on the events in the late Eastern Han dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period. The plot is adapted from the 14th century historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms and other stories about the Three Kingdoms period. Directed by Gao Xixi, the series had a budget of over 160 million RMB and took five years of pre-production work. Shooting of the series commenced in October 2008, and it was released in China in May 2010.
The New Adventures of Chor Lau-heung is a television series adapted from Gu Long's wuxia novels, primarily the Chu Liuxiang Series, but it also includes characters from the Little Li Flying Dagger series and Lu Xiaofeng Series. It was first broadcast on CTS and TVB in Taiwan and Hong Kong respectively in 2001.
The Xiaoli Feidao series is a series of five wuxia novels by Gu Long. First published between 1968 and 1981, the five novels have since been adapted into seven films and 18 television series as of 2020.
Liu Zhen was a Chinese rebel during the Tang dynasty. He was an adopted son of the Tang dynasty general Liu Congjian. After his adoptive father's death, Liu Zhen tried to take over Zhaoyi Circuit, which Liu Congjian had governed as military governor (jiedushi), without approval from Emperor Wuzong. When Emperor Wuzong declared a general campaign against him, he was defeated, and he was subsequently killed, along with his clan members, by his own officer Guo Yi (郭誼).
The Water Margin is a 1998 Chinese television series adapted from Shi Nai'an's classical 14th-century novel of the same title. It was produced by CCTV with Zhang Jizhong as producer. It was first broadcast in China in January 1998. The series also featured action choreography by Yuen Woo-ping.
Huo Yuanjia is a 2008 Chinese television series loosely based on the life of the Chinese martial artist Huo Yuanjia. It includes a subplot about Chen Zhen, a fictional apprentice of Huo Yuanjia and the protagonist of the 1972 film Fist of Fury. The series was directed by Kuk Kwok-leung and starred Ekin Cheng, Jordan Chan, Zhou Muyin, Bryan Leung, Ding Li and Qu Yue in the lead roles. It was first released in 2008 and was later broadcast on various television channels in other countries in the following year. The sequel, Legend of the Fist: Chen Zhen, was released in late 2008.
All Men Are Brothers is a 2011 Chinese television series adapted from Shi Nai'an's 14th century novel Water Margin, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. The series is directed by Kuk Kwok-leung and features cast members from mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. The series was first broadcast on 8TV in March 2011 in Malaysia.
Return of the Sentimental Swordsman, also known as The Flying Blade, is a 1981 Hong Kong wuxia film written and directed by Chor Yuen and produced by the Shaw Brothers Studio, based on Gu Long's Xiaoli Feidao series of novels. It stars Ti Lung, Alexander Fu Sheng and Derek Yee.
Wu Zi Bei Ge, also known as Wu Zi Bei Ge: Wu Zetian Zhuan, is a 2006 Chinese television series based on the life of Wu Zetian, the only woman in Chinese history to assume the title of "Empress Regnant". The series was directed and written by Chen Yanmin, and starred Siqin Gaowa and Wen Zhengrong as the empress. The series' title Wu Zi Bei Ge literally means "Song of the Uncharactered Stele", with the "stele" referring to the unmarked one standing near Wu Zetian's tomb at the Qianling Mausoleum.
Swordsman is a 2013 Chinese television series adapted from Louis Cha's novel The Smiling, Proud Wanderer. The series is written and produced by Yu Zheng, and stars Wallace Huo, Joe Chen, Yuan Shanshan, Chen Xiao and Yang Rong. Shooting started on 24 March 2012 in Xiandu, Jinyun County, Lishui, Zhejiang. It was first aired in China on Hunan Television from 6 February to 4 March 2013. The plot deviates significantly from the novel, with Dongfang Bubai depicted as a woman and having a romantic affair with Linghu Chong.
Legend of Lu Zhen is a 2013 Chinese television series based on the novel Female Prime Minister (女相) by Zhang Wei. Directed by Li Huizhu, Zheng Wei'en and Liang Guoguan and produced by Yu Zheng and Mu Xiaohui, the series stars Zhao Liying and Chen Xiao. It was first broadcast on 5 May 2013 in China and subsequently aired in other Asian countries such as South Korea and Japan.
