Forskning och framsteg (meaning Research and Progress in English; abbreviated as FoF) is a Swedish language popular science magazine based in Stockholm, Sweden. It has been published since 1966.

History and profile

The magazine was launched in Stockholm in 1966. [1] The publisher was Sällskapet för forskninginformation. [1] It was published on a bimonthly basis from its start in 1966 to 1968. [1] FoF was then published ten times per year. [2] The frequency was switched to eight times annually. [1] The magazine is financed by the Swedish Research Council and other Swedish research foundations such as Natur & Kultur. [2] [3]

The contributors of FoF are mostly scholars or scientific journalists, and the magazine features interviews with researchers in addition to regular articles and other material. [3] It frequently publishes articles on natural sciences, medical sciences and other science related topics. [1]

Hans Bertil Mattias Gardell is a Swedish historian and scholar of comparative religion. He is the current holder of the Nathan Söderblom Chair of Comparative Religion at Uppsala University, Sweden. He was the first Lenin Award laureate in 2009, and received The Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities Award for Distinguished Research in the Humanities, the Royal Gold Medal, in 2003.

Föreningen Vetenskap och Folkbildning

Vetenskap och Folkbildning or The Swedish Skeptics' Association, abbreviated as VoF, is a Swedish skeptics' association. It was founded in 1982 with the purpose to raise the general public's awareness of scientific methods and results. The association publishes the quarterly journal Folkvett and organises lectures on themes related to science and pseudoscience. Since 1987 the association has annually awarded prizes for "Enlightener of the Year" and "Misleader of the Year".

Herbert Tingsten

Herbert Lars Gustaf Tingsten was a Swedish political scientist, writer and newspaper publisher. An influential figure in Swedish political science, he was a professor of political science at Stockholm University from 1935 to 1946, and executive editor of the newspaper Dagens Nyheter from 1946 to 1959.

The International Science Festival in Gothenburg is an annual festival in Gothenburg with science activities.

Rape in Sweden has a legal definition described in Chapter 6 in the Swedish Penal Code. Historically, rape has been defined as forced sexual intercourse initiated against a woman or man by one or several people, without consent. In recent years, several revisions to the definition of rape have been made to the law of Sweden, to include not only intercourse but also comparable sexual acts against someone incapable of giving consent, due to being in a vulnerable situation, such as a state of fear or unconsciousness.

Per Magnus Johansson

Per Magnus Johansson is a Swedish psychoanalyst, psychotherapist and historian of ideas. Through his research on the history of psychoanalysis in Sweden, Johansson has contributed to the understanding of the heritage of Sigmund Freud and the psychoanalytical movement in the 20th century. Johansson's psychoanalytical training took place in Paris, where he completed a training analysis with Pierre Legendre.

Coup of 1809 Deposition of Swedish King Gustav IV and establishment of constitutional democracy

The Coup of 1809 also referred to as the Revolution of 1809 was a Swedish coup d'état by a group of noblemen resulting in the deposition of King Gustav IV Adolf of Sweden and the introduction of the Instrument of Government (1809). The coup was provoked by the disastrous Finnish War. The leaders of the coup are known in history collectively as 1809 års män.

Swedish National Defence Research Institute

Swedish National Defence Research Institute was a Swedish government agency in defense research existing from 1945 to 31 December 2000. It was amalgamated with the National Aeronautical Research Institute (FFA) into the Swedish Defence Research Agency (FOI) which was established on 1 January 2001.

She is also a panel member on the Swedish TV show Studio Natur, and was named best science communicator in Sweden during the 2012 Forskar Grand Prix.

Chief of the Air Staff (Sweden)

The Chief of the Air Staff is the professional head of the Swedish Air Staff. The post was created in 1936 with lieutenant colonel Bengt Nordenskiöld as the first incumbent. The post disappeared in 1994 and was reintroduced in 2019 when the new Air Staff was established.
