Reid won the 2010 and 2011 NCAA Women's Cross Country Championship, and in June 2011 became the first woman to win the 5000 m and the 1500 m at the NCAA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship. She won the Honda Sports Award as the nation's top female cross country runner in 2011, repeated as the best female cross country runner in 2012, and also won the Honda Sports Award for Track and field in 2012.

Cooper Teare is an American distance runner who runs events such as the 1500m and 5000m. A runner at University of Oregon, he won the 5000m in 13:12.27 at the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships. This time was a championship record and the fastest time ever by an American collegiate runner. Teare also was a part of a team that won the distance medley relay at the 2021 NCAA Division I Indoor Track Championships to help lead Oregon to a national team title. In addition, Teare is the collegiate record holder in both the indoor mile and distance medley relay. Teare finished 10th in the 1500m and 5000m at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland.
